He placed the shopping bag on the coffee table, opened it, and took out a cardboard box from inside. But once he opened it, he was lost in thought.
Strange. Why would she give me a couture dress?
The apartment unit Anneliese’s grandmother had given to her was a spacious, nearly 2152.8 square feet flat.
Anneliese tidied up the place a bit, took a shower, and lay on the bed. Then, she called her grandmother back in Baytree and went straight to sleep.
Thanks to the change in her surroundings, Anneliese managed to sleep soundly through the night.
Neither did she suffer from insomnia, nor did she get woken up by nightmares in the middle of the night.
In fact, it was her phone’s vibration that woke her up.
She groggily reached for her phone, picked it up, and saw a WhatsApp message from Selina, stating, ‘Thanks, Anne, for letting Zach come over to keep me company. It feels so warm and reassuring.
Attached along with the message was a photo. In it, Selina was sitting cross–legged on the couch in her nightgown. Not far from the bar, Zacharias, with two buttons on his shirt collar being undone, held a decanter and poured the wine.
Still, irony truly peaked when Anneliese’s gaze landed on the wedding ring on his finger, which was illuminated by the dazzling crystal light.
So–this is Zacharias‘ so–called business trip, she thought. After saving the photo, she immediately forwarded it to Coral.
Once done, she stretched and got out of bed.
She washed her face and came out to find that she couldn’t cook as she hadn’t bought anything for the kitchen yet.
Therefore, she decided to go out for breakfast before heading to a nearby supermarket for some grocery shopping.
Anneliese changed into comfortable casual wear, grabbed her bag, and walked out.

She pressed the elevator button. Her phone beeped as she waited for the elevator to arrive.
Anneliese took it out of her bag and glanced at it. Her eyes widened in disbelief the next second.
She rubbed her eyes, making sure her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her. Upon realizing she indeed received a reply to the email she had sent to her professor, Anneliese excitedly covered her mouth, squealed, and danced in joy.
“Ah!!!”
“Coming in?”
Just then, the elevator doors opened. A familiar deep voice rang in her ears.
At once, Anneliese looked up. Since she was currently in a good mood, she completely forgot the awkwardness from last night as she looked at the handsome and refined Jonathan in the elevator.
She entered with a spring in her step and gave him a wave. “Good morning, Mr. Fullbuster!”
Dressed in a dark blue, well–tailored pilot’s uniform, which embraced his stalwart build, Jonathan gazed down at Anneliese’s radiant face with joy.
“What’s the good news?”
Compressing her lips in a smile, Anneliese said, “Is it that obvious?”
Before Jonathan could nod, she eagerly shared.
“Mr. Fullbuster, have you ever given up something very important and passionate about? At first, I thought I’d lost it forever. But I never thought that I would one day realize that I can still make up all the regrets.”
Such was her mood right now.
Anneliese stared at Jonathan, hoping for empathy.
However, upon thinking about how someone like Jonathan likely wouldn’t have any regrets in life, she felt certain that he must find her overly dramatic and funny right now.
Jonathan spoke softly just as she was about to change the subject.
If truth be told, he knew the source of Anneliese’s happiness. Yesterday, he had sent a video of her controlling a drone on the hospital rooftop to Prof. Clocke. Now, it seemed to him that

Prof. Clocke had watched the video.

“Unable to get what you want isn’t necessarily a regret; regaining what you lost is fulfillment,” Jonathan remarked, his husky voice echoing in the confined elevator and brushing past Anneliese’s ears softly like a feather.
Her lips moved slightly, and her eyelashes trembled lightly as she gave thought to his words. Yeah. For years, I had desired Zacharias and his family’s affection. Yet, I never got it. Now that I have given up, it’s actually no big deal. I have no regrets at all. Instead, I have picked up my dreams and regained Prof. Clocke’s recognition. From now on, I will only become stronger and better. So, Jonathan is right. This is considered fulfillment, indeed.
A bright and cheerful smile surfaced on Anneliese’s face as she looked up.
“Wow, Mr. Fullbuster, I didn’t expect you to be quite the motivational speaker.”
Jonathan arched an eyebrow, not expressing an opinion.
Seeing this, Anneliese chuckled and looked down. She was eager to check the reply from her professor.

In the email, not only had Prof. Clocke answered the questions she had sent over the days, but he also assigned her the task of sorting out materials in the Astoria University archives.
Given her familiarity with him, Anneliese was aware that sorting out materials was just an excuse. Prof. Clocke must not want me to waste this month’s time. He wants me to learn through organizing materials so that I can make up for the professional gaps of the past four years and catch up quickly, she thought.
Ding–dong!
Just then, the elevator chimed and reached the ground floor.
The doors opened. Before even stepping out, Anneliese spotted Jessica standing outside, waiting for the elevator with Meatloaf,
