Turning to glare at her, he took in her aggrieved and hesitant expression. The affection brimming in her eyes eventually softened his heart, and his anger slowly melted away.
He finally reprimanded her lightly in a curt voice, “Don’t let it happen again.”
Overjoyed by his lenient reaction, she immediately bounced to her feet and tried to kiss him on the lips.
“Stop that.” He turned his head away, dodging her kiss, and sternly rebuked her.
Sticking her tongue out at him, she wrapped her arm around his again.
“It’s been forever since I last saw you… I’ve missed you so much that I can’t even sleep… It’s been such torture, yet you’re being so cold to me… I don’t care–you have to make it up to me.”
“Fine. Go ahead and inform Jackie about what you want later.”
His response was lukewarm. He was distracted by his phone, trying to call Anneliese.
But he was repeatedly greeted by the cold and mechanical voice as his calls went straight to voicemail.
Zacharias hastily quickened his pace, eager to see Anneliese as soon as possible.
Watching his odd behavior, Carol bit her lip hard. Her eyes were filled with a mixture of jealousy and fear.
She was aware that he had gone abroad to accompany his old flame. It was the main purpose of his trip. Therefore, she had tried everything–contacting him via different means and using every trick she knew–to get him to come back.
But he had coldly ignored her the entire time. Even now that he was finally back, his mind wasn’t focused on her at all.
She could feel his chilly indifference toward her.

Determined to capture his attention again, she climbed into his lap as soon as they entered the car. She clung to him and kissed him passionately, her hands slowly roaming down to the zipper of his pants.
Having been away for several days, he was easily aroused by her advances. He took control and kissed her fiercely, roughly groping and squeezing her breasts.

Coral wept softly, without making a sound. Her shoulders trembled with each choking sob.
Zacharias had been out of the country for several days, so he was busy catching up on some messages and documents.
He did not notice her crying silently beside him. By the time he realized, her eyes were already red and swollen from crying.
Frowning slightly, he pulled her into his embrace.
“Am I troubling you? I’m sorry… I know I don’t have the right to ask anything of you, but I… I just missed
you so much.” She meekly wiped away her tears and whimpered, “And I’m so
scared…”
“Scared of what?”
“I’m scared that you’ll suddenly stop wanting me one day.”
She raised her head to look at him, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. Her youthful and delicate face overflowed with affection and yearning.

Despite looking at Carol, Zacharias was reminded of how Anneliese had looked in the past.
There was a time when she, too, had showered him with love and affection. She had been completely dependent and reliant on him. But she had matured quickly once she entered the workforce. She swiftly grew increasingly independent and reserved, even distant.
Just two years into their marriage, their relationship lost some of its initial passion. It felt as though they had sunk into the boring routine of an old married couple.
He found himself wishing that she could return to how she used to be–completely dependent on him. He wanted her clinging to him for affection and begging softly for his attention, just like Coral was now.
“Why would I stop wanting you? You silly girl…” Zacharias gently tapped Coral’s nose, his handsome face showing a rare hint of warmth.
Sensing the shift in his mood, Coral immediately wrapped her arms around his neck.
“I would never compete with your wife, but… could you take me back to school now?” Her pleading voice was soft and sweet. “I don’t want to part with you just yet… Just an hour, that’s all -would that be okay?”
She looked so pitiful and lovable at the same time that he nodded and instructed the driver to change course toward Astoria University instead.
Gazing into his refined and handsome face, she let her thoughts wander.
Both Anneliese and that old flame of his… Neither of them actually loves him.
