Jonathan had to return to the office, so Anneliese stepped out and closed the door.

Before he could respond, she waved, turned fast, and ran off, her small frame darting into the neighborhood like a startled deer.
Jonathan watched her disappear before rolling the window up. The corner of his mouth curved faintly.
So, she had noticed.
The suit and tie he wore today were the ones she had chosen for him.
“Sir, must be an autumn heatwave.
“Your ears are bright red,” Zion teased as he guided the car into traffic, amusement flickering in his eyes.
Jonathan glanced at him, his smile already gone.
“It’s already winter. How long is your autumn heatwave supposed to last?”
Zion gave a dry laugh. “Right, winter already. That explains the chill.”
His boss lived by double standards.
When Anneliese was around, the air felt like warm autumn sunshine.
The moment she left, winter arrived, cold and merciless. Just like his heart.
Jonathan ignored his assistant’s jab and gave his order instead. “Make sure Melody and Jameson don’t get bail.”
At the station, Zacharias had already arranged for lawyers to meet Melody. Still, hours passed before he finally stepped outside.
Jackie was waiting. The moment he saw Zacharias, he shook his head in frustration. “Mr. Shaw, we’ve called everyone we can, but there’s still no bail. It’s not even that serious. How is this happening?”
Jackie couldn’t make sense of it.

He climbed into the car and asked curtly, “Where is Anne?”
Jackie stammered, “Mrs. Shaw hasn’t answered her phone, so I… I don’t know.”
He had been too busy pulling strings and hadn’t bothered to keep track of her.
Zacharias‘ expression darkened even more. His stare was so sharp that Jackie turned pale.
Finally, Zacharias spoke coldly. “Anneliese is my only wife. Remember that.”
“Yes, sir.” Jackie wiped the sweat from his forehead.

“Everything’s ready. Complete privacy, the best dishes, and the finest wine. Mr. Hoffington hasn’t arrived yet. Mr. Shaw, please wait in the private room. I’ll stay by the entrance and let you know the moment his car pulls up. Don’t worry.”
