Zina’s voice was crisp and unusually serious. She looked straight at Rosie and said, “What are you laughing at? What? Is that such a hard question to answer?”
“I–I wasn’t,” Rosie stammered, quickly shaking her head. She bit her lower lip, her eyes growing misty, and her voice sounded even more aggrieved.
“I don’t know why you’d say that about me, Zina. I was just trying to remind you to be a little more careful, and that’s all. If you don’t want me to, I won’t say anything next time,” Rosie said, sounding even more wronged.
Her shoulders trembled slightly, and with only half of her delicate face visible under the side lighting, Rosie looked as if she might break at any moment–pitiful and fragile.
Even Zina let out a couple of tsk–tsks, unable to hold back her sarcasm.
Someone in the crowd finally couldn’t stand it anymore and snapped at Zina.
“Seriously, what’s your deal? Are you really going to bully her in front of everyone like this?”
“Me?” Zina raised an eyebrow. “Let’s not even talk about whether what you all said about me is true. But just from her few words, anyone with half a brain can see what kind of piece of work she is.
“And now you’re all jumping to defend her. Are you basically admitting you’re super stupid?”
As Zina spoke, her gaze landed on the man who had just spoken, and she nodded to herself, as if confirming her thoughts.
She felt like she had seen him somewhere before, but she couldn’t quite remember when.
The man’s eyes reddened with fury as he fixed Zina with a murderous glare.

Zina just shrugged. “So now I’m the bad guy, huh? What do you think, Rosie? Do I need to whip out some proof or something?” Zina said, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
“H–How should I know what you’re like?” Rosie stammered, her expression changing.
She hurriedly turned her head away, but not before shooting a sharp glare at the man who’d just spoken up. The man immediately looked aggrieved.
From that one look, it was like something exploded in Zina’s mind. If she remembered right, this was the same guy she’d seen getting into it with Rosie before.
Back then, she’d just been sitting in the car and only caught a glimpse, so it barely registered with her.
But now, thinking back, the whole scene was suddenly much clearer.
Zina smirked, her eyes twinkling with mischief as she looked at the man in front of her.
“Wow, are you two about to tie the knot or something? I remember catching you together before.
“Honestly, I always thought Rosie would end up marrying into the Carter family, but it seems like you two have your plans, huh?” Zina teased, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“And this guy here really does look mature and dependable. You two actually make quite the pair,” she added with a sly grin.
At her words, the man’s small, beady eyes lit up instantly. He even started to think that maybe Zina wasn’t as much of a pain as Rosie had made her out to be.
Completely lost in his own little world, he didn’t even notice that Rosie was clearly freaking out right next to him.
“W–What kind of nonsense are you spouting?” Rosie blurted out, her cheeks flushing bright red.
She anxiously scanned the room, only relaxing a little when she confirmed Kyle was nowhere in sight. But she still shot Zina a fierce glare.
Zina looked the man up and down with obvious amusement, her eyes full of interest.
‘So he’s just a backup guy, she thought, a smirk playing at her lips. ‘Now this is getting fun!
Zina put on an exaggerated look of surprise. “Oh, so you two aren’t actually a thing like I thought? What a pity.”
“Shut up,” Rosie snapped, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. She’d clearly realized she’d just made way too much of a scene.
But at this point, all Rosie could do was stand there, face flushed and tongue–tied, shooting a pleading look at the man beside her, hoping he’d back her up.
But after Rosie’s earlier reaction, the man had gone completely stone–faced. He acted like he hadn’t seen a thing and just turned his head away.

Now that the first one had chickened out, the rest of the crowd fell completely silent.
Rosie was left standing there all by herself, cold sweat running down her back, with nowhere to run and no one to save her.
Rosie’s big, round eyes darted around, and suddenly, she seemed to have an idea. She quickly put on her most pitiful look again.
“Zina, even if you’re upset with me and want to expose that you have a sugar daddy behind you, you don’t have to slander me like this, do you?” she whined.
“And besides, are you really that sure he can always protect you like this?” she added. “You’re out here openly talking about the Lambert family.
“No matter how capable your backer is, there’s no way they can go up against the Lambert family, right?”
Rosie continued, “I was just worried about you. That’s why I reminded you. If you don’t like it, you can just go to your sugar daddy instead of coming here to make things difficult for me.”

Just then, a figure approached with a commanding presence, and a deep, icy voice rang out across the hall. “Is my status enough to let her speak her mind here?”

Scott hesitated at first, but then thought that since his sister had already hit him, what was he afraid of? After figuring this out, he rushed over angrily and slapped him hard, causing Griffin to howl again.
“Very good.” Kaia nodded in satisfaction, then turned to look at Joel, “Is Keaton here?”
“Almost here,” Joel replied.
Griffin’s eyes flickered with uncertainty, Kaia had actually brought his grandfather here. Was she really so stupid as to think that his grandfather would stand up for her?
He was his grandfather’s own grandson. Even if his grandfather was angry, he would only protect his life.
