Chapter 125
Penny suddenly gasped.
“Heavens, this is too scary! This number is worth more than a month of their family’s profits. Does Kaia have that much money? She wondered.
With a “beep,” the card payment was successful.
Penny stared wide–eyed at the card Kaia had just taken out, her eyes filled with disbelief.
“Kaia, where did you get so much money?”
“I earned it.”
“Earned it? What did you do to earn it?”
“It’s hard to say. I’ll tell you later if I have the chance.
“Okay, then I won’t ask about that. But- Penny looked at Tobias waiting in the store, her brow furrowing. “Kaia, as a friend, I can’t help but say this. That guy is definitely good–looking, but you can’t always be paying for everything. You’ll suffer in the future.”
Kaia opened her mouth to say that Tobias had always been the one paying for her.
“I’m living in his house now, eating his food, using his things, and I haven’t given him any money.”
“What? You’re living in his house? You’re living together? Kaia, you… although it’s normal to live together these days, you must not be deceived. If he deceives you out of your money and your feelings, you’ll be very sad
and hopeless. Penny was extremely worried about Kaia’s current situation”
Fearing that Penny was overthinking things, Kaia continued to explain, “His grandfather and I have known. each other for a long time, and it’s because of that relationship that I’m living in his house.”
“That gave me such a scare! I thought you’d lost it!” Penny patted her chest, relieved.
Hearing Penny’s words, Kaia stifled a laugh. She wondered how Tobias would react if he heard it.
Suddenly, Kaia paused and glanced back over her shoulder.
Penny noticed Kaia’s reaction and asked, puzzled, “What’s wrong? What are you looking at?”
Kaia narrowed her beautiful eyes. “I think someone was secretly taking pictures.”
“Taking pictures?” Penny was stunned for a moment, then quickly ran in the direction Kaia was looking. She turned the corner and looked for a long time, but didn’t see anyone.
“There’s no one there! Are you sure you’re not mistaken? Besides, we’re not celebrities or public figures. Why would anyone take pictures of us?”
As if worried Zina would just walk away, Rosie pulled out her phone in an instant and thrust it in front of Zina. “Go ahead, take a look if you don’t believe me.”
Even a glimpse of the footage made Zina freeze in place. She could feel her whole body trembling, overwhelmed by an uncontrollable shake. But it wasn’t fear–it was excitement.
She was thrilled to finally have the concrete evidence she had been looking for all this time. It was the footage from her prison days, days she would never forget, no matter how hard she tried.
Zina slowly closed her eyes, taking a deep breath to steady herself, while Rosie’s taunting voice grew sharper in her ears. “You’d better think carefully about your next move.
“All the dirt on you is in my hands now. With this hanging over you, do you really think the Lambert family will keep you around?”
Seeing the malicious glare in Rosie’s eyes, Zina paused, then lowered her head, her voice becoming much softer. “So, what do you want from me?
“You have to tell me exactly what you want me to do so I can think it over and decide. Anyway, you’ve got all the evidence, so it’s not like I can just run away.”
“Good to know,” Rosie sneered, putting her phone away, though the malice on her face was unmistakable.
She circled Zina, her eyes burning with jealousy as she eyed the expensive items Zina was wearing–things Rosie could never even dream of owning.
“What makes you think you deserve all this? You just got lucky being born into the right family. If you had spent your life stuck in some remote place, you’d probably be worse off than me,” Rosie said.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Zina muttered, too exhausted to argue any longer. She simply went along with whatever Rosie wanted.
Rosie’s anger seemed to subside a little, but she immediately stretched out her hand to Zina. “That bag you’re carrying today isn’t bad. I suppose it’s barely good enough for me. Hand it over.”
Zina couldn’t help but smirk. For a second there, she honestly didn’t know whether to call Rosie Sinclair shamelessly materialistic or just plain pathetic.
The bag she was carrying was the least valuable item on her. Everything else she wore was far more expensive.
But Rosie had actually hit the nail on the head. Zina had come here today to meet Kellan and go over the evidence they’d gathered. The bag held crucial evidence inside.
Seeing that Zina still wasn’t handing over the bag she wanted, Rosie started to get anxious.
“What, can’t bear to part with it? Looks like life with the Lambert family isn’t so great after all. No wonder 1 heard they have three sons and a daughter who’s been with them for years.
“You just showed up out of nowhere, so they can’t possibly treat you well. That night, they probably only had me escorted out as a favor to you. I really overestimated you,” Rosie said.
Kaia raised a hand to her chin and fell into deep thought.
Penny wasn’t a public figure, but her identity as Dr. Bennett was more interesting than celebrities.
Not many people knew her identity, and everyone who did know her was extremely reliable and would never reveal it easily.
She wondered who was secretly taking photos of them. Was the target her or Kaia? And what was the purpose?
“Okay, don’t worry about it so much. It’s rare to see your boyfriend today, so let’s find a restaurant. It’s on me.” Tobias had a particularly good impression of Penny when he heard the term “boyfriend.”
“How could I let a girl treat? I’m Kaia’s boyfriend, I should be the one to treat.”
Kaia glanced at Tobias. “You’re my boyfriend?”
“Soon.” Tobias replied with a smile.
Penny could tell that Tobias was not yet Kaia’s boyfriend, but seeing that Kaia did not reject him at all, and the way they got along, she also felt that Tobias and Kaia’s relationship was indeed progressing rapidly.
“Don’t be embarrassed, you’re the birthday star today. How can we let you treat? Besides, it’s our first time meeting, and I didn’t prepare any gifts. If you don’t let me treat, how can I feel good about it?”
Since Penny had already said so, Tobias no longer refused.
Afterward, the three of them found a restaurant nearby and ordered.
At the same time, Conrad received a set of photos showing Kaia and Tobias in intimate poses.
“Who exactly is taking photos of Miss Bennett?”
Conrad had just muttered to himself when the other party called.
“Mr. Dorsey, these photos were just taken by my men and are definitely not fabricated. If you don’t believe me, you can have a technician verify them. But I suggest you don’t waste any time. Kaia and that man are at the Serenity Hotel. If you come now, you can catch them in the act.”
Conrad asked sternly. “Who are you?”
“I am Issac from the Parsons family.”
“Isaac?” Conrad froze for a moment, then it all clicked.
Conrad continued calmly, “What is your purpose in doing this?”
“Mr. Dorsey, I know you and Kaia have a close relationship, and I also happened to find out that she’s keeping a boyfriend on the side. She is using your money to support another man. I really can’t stand it, so I took pictures and sent them to you. I just hope you won’t be deceived by Kaia!”
Rosie let out a cold laugh, and although she still liked Zina’s bag, seeing Zina struggle made her feel much better. She didn’t care about the bag anymore,
“You don’t have much left anyway. Keep it. But when you get back to the Lambert family, find their latest bid proposal for me. As long as you play nice, my dad and I won’t give you any trouble,” Rosie added.
Rosie still had that smug look on her face, but Zina suddenly pressed her lips together, her gaze turning cold as she stared ahead.
So this is what the Sinclair family’s really after, huh? Zina thought. ‘Greedy as ever. They really don’t know when to stop
But just as she thought that, Zina froze again. ‘Wait–how the hell does the Sinclair family know about the Lambert family’s bid proposal? Could there be a mole in the Lambert family!
о
Issac and his entire family were now relying on Kaia being cast into hell by Conrad to rise.
After tapping her finger on the table a few times, Conrad replied, “Where are you now? Morganburg?”
Issac heart skipped a beat, and sweat poured down his forehead.
He was afraid and didn’t dare to answer.
“1. I…
“Don’t try to lie to me.” Conrad said coldly.
Issac wiped the sweat from his forehead and stammered, “Mr. Dorsey, we…we didn’t intentionally fail to leave as you instructed. It’s just…we were delayed by some things.”
Conrad narrowed his eyes. “Oh? Delayed? Delayed for so long?”
Issac forehead was now covered in cold sweat, and his back was also soaked.
“Okay, are you saying Kaia is at the Serenity Hotel now?”
“Yes, Mr. Dorsey.”
“You want me to go over?”
Isaac was bewildered by Conrad’s question. He thought, “Kaia is your woman, and she’s cheating on you. She’s even using the money from the wallet you gave her to support her boyfriend. Don’t you care at all? Aren’t you worried? Aren’t you angry?”
“Okay, come with me. Conrad stood up, put on his coat, and walked out.
It seemed the lesson the Parsons family learned wasn’t enough. They were still thinking about retaliating against Kaia. A family with such vile characters like them wouldn’t give up unless they thoroughly learned
their lesson.
After Issac hung up the phone, Rita couldn’t wait to ask, “Dad, how did it go? Is Mr. Dorsey furious?”
“Mr. Dorsey told me to go to Serenity Hotel with him.”
“I want to go too!”
“What are you going to do there?”
“I’m going to see Kaia get scolded by Mr. Dorsey with my own eyes!” Rita‘ face was distorted with hatred. “She’s embarrassed me again and again, I must see it with my own eyes, or I won’t be able to swallow this!”
Issac understood his daughter and could understand her feelings. If it were him, having been defeated again and again, he would do the same.
“Okay, then we can go together, but please keep a low profile in front of Mr. Dorsey,” Issac instructed with
