Chapter 126
“Why aren’t you saying anything? Make sure you complete your task properly, understood?” Rosie shot Zina a fierce glare, making sure she was paying attention before giving a cold snort.
Suddenly, her phone rang. When she saw who was calling, her whole demeanor softened, and she instantly lit up. She glared at Zina one last time. “Remember to get it done quickly.” Then, she hurried off to take the call.
Seeing Rosie’s sweet expression, Zina couldn’t help but roll her eyes. But this sweet call ended up helping Zina after all.
Zina pressed her lips together, no longer paying attention to Rosie. She turned off the recording on her phone, took a deep breath, and headed upstairs.
Though the mall was full of shops, no one knew that on the second floor, there was a hidden space–a cleverly designed room that from the outside looked like just a regular wall.
Zina pressed a few spots along the wall, then glanced over at a nearby passage. As she walked through the passage, the space gradually expanded until she stepped into a private room.
Though it wasn’t very large, the room was well–equipped, small but perfectly functional.
By the table, Kellan stood with his back to her, his posture straight and strong, radiating quiet strength. He seemed so lost in thought that he didn’t even notice Zina approaching.
It wasn’t until Zina suddenly spoke up, “Still digging for evidence!”
Kellan turned around quickly, meeting Zina’s smiling face.
“You looked so deep in thought, I almost felt bad for interrupting you,” she said.
“No, I was just checking the time,” Kellan replied quickly, brushing off the topic. “Got held up What did Rosie say to you?”
downstairs?
Zina’s voice instantly turned serious. “How did you find out?” Zina wondered if Kellan had planted a tracker on her. He always seemed to know exactly what she was doing.
As if reading her thoughts, Kellan explained casually, “From here, I can access all the mall’s surveillance cameras. As soon as you walked in, I knew you’d arrived.
“I also saw you and Rosie Sinclair facing off downstairs, so I figured you two must’ve had some kind of exchange. But you certainly looked like you were putting on quite a show down there. Was it fun?” he teased.
Zina paused, surprised, then looked up to meet his gaze. His eyes were clear, with no hidden intentions–just genuine concern. It was rare for someone to see right through her, and she couldn’t help but admire that.
“It was okay, kind of interesting. But Rosie was too arrogant. It made it hard for me to really show my acting: skills. Honestly, it was a bit boring,” she said.
“Are you saying you didn’t even get to show off your real skills?” Kellan teased, a playful glint in his eyes as he focused on Zina.
