On the return trip, Jonathan didn’t take the controls. Instead, he stayed in the cabin, holding meetings and working through files. He was truly swamped–switching between three different languages, drinking only a few sips of water in two hours.
Watching him, Jessica muttered that she would never envy the rich again.
It wasn’t until they were almost over Occaton that Jonathan finally paused. He got up, glanced at his watch, then turned to Anneliese. “We’ll be landing in about fifteen minutes. The Airbus ACJ350 uses quite a few advanced composite materials. Want me to show you around?”
Of course, she was interested. Her eyes lit up instantly, and she practically bounced to her feet. “Yes, absolutely! This cabin is so quiet. It’s like sitting in a library.”
He gave a small nod. “The soundproofing layer uses nanoporous absorption, similar to 3M acoustic foam.”
“I’ve seen that in the research room before. It’s made of superfine fibers combined with nanoporous structures. Oh, and I looked at this couch earlier. It’s so light.”
“That’s carbon fiber honeycomb paneling.”
Jessica had originally been hoping to see her best friend and this devastatingly handsome billionaire share some steamy moment in the luxurious cabin–maybe a passionate wall kiss or a lingering stare over a glass of wine. She even had her phone camera sneakily ready.
But when she peeked over, the two of them were crouched in the corner, poking and prodding at the couch like a couple of engineers. To an outsider, it looked more like they were planning to hijack the plane.
Jessica pressed a hand to her forehead. My bestie has zero ambition, and Mr. Fullbuster isn’t in any hurry either. Neither of them is seizing the moment. I’m stressing out while they’re cool as cucumbers. I’m done!
Meanwhile, in Riveraton, Zacharias had called the police. Officers arrived quickly, collecting fingerprints and blood samples from the wrecked Audi before checking the surrounding area.
He followed them back to the station and waited restlessly, calling in favors and searching frantically for Anneliese. But his influence in Riveraton was limited. On top of that, he had no

Fortunately, the forensic results confirmed that the blood samples from the car and the scene were type O. Anneliese’s blood type was B. Even so, the discovery did little to calm his fear.
While Zacharias was tearing his hair out, Anneliese and her group had already landed safely.
The skies over Oceaton were heavy with clouds, the bone–chilling wind hinting that the first snow of the season was near.
“It’s nearly dinner,” Anneliese said, glancing at Jonathan. “If you and Zion are free, let me treat you both to a meal.”
A dinner invitation was hardly enough to repay them, but at least it was something.
Jonathan lowered his gaze, lips parting as if to speak, when a crisp, confident female voice rang out. “Jonathan, you’re back.”
Anneliese turned toward the sound and saw a tall woman with short hair and striking features, striding over in a pilot’s uniform.
“Whoa,” Jessica breathed beside her.
Anneliese’s eyes brightened as well–it was her first time meeting a female pilot. The woman was at least five–nine, her shirt and tailored pants cinched at the waist with a belt. She moved with brisk, commanding energy, a mix of elegance and strength. A beautiful woman with a truly unique presence.
In moments, she was standing in front of them. Jonathan asked, “Why are you back early?”
India Malone gave him a pointed look. “What, I can’t finish my work ahead of schedule? Aren’t you going to introduce me to these two lovely ladies?”
Her eyes swept over Anneliese and Jessica before landing on Anneliese’s delicate, striking face.
She had only just returned, but had already heard the rumors. The ever–aloof Mr. Fullbuster had flown his private jet to Riveraton personally, escorting two beautiful young women. Everyone at AeroAir was buzzing with speculation about his relationship with them.
Anneliese looked to Jonathan, who inclined his chin toward India. “India Malone, pilot for AeroAir, and a friend of mine.”

He didn’t explain Anneliese’s connection to him, but that vagueness in itself carried its own weight.
Anneliese smiled at India, her eyes curving, her gaze bright. “Hello, Captain Malone. You’re the first female pilot I’ve ever met. That’s really impressive–and so cool!”
India blinked.
