Zacharias walked up behind them, perfectly aware that Jessica’s words had all been meant for
his ears.
He was seriously mad, and it showed on his face–he looked gloomier than ever.
“Jessica!”
“What do you want from me?” Jessica rolled her eyes at him.
A sharp look flashed in Zacharias‘ eyes. “I know you ran off from the Johnsons. I’m sure you don’t want them to find out you’re in Oceaton, right?”
His threat made both Jessica and Anneliese stiffen.
“You jerk! You’re so shameless!” Jessica snapped, her face turning a little pale.
Anneliese stepped up to shield her, shooting Zacharias an icy look. “Zacharias, please don’t give me a reason to hate you.”
When Zacharias saw the hatred and disgust in Anneliese’s eyes, he clenched the divorce papers even tighter. He tried to soften his expression, looking almost resigned.
“Can’t we just have one last meal together?”
“And you think threatening us is the way to do it?”
“Of course not. You’ve got the wrong idea.”
“If that’s the case, then there’s no point.” Anneliese made her stance clear, tugging Jessica along as she prepared to leave.
However, Zacharias wasn’t willing to let her go. He grabbed her arm. “Anne, do you really have nothing left to say to me?”
“Actually, I do.” A flicker of hope appeared in Zacharias‘ eyes, but Anneliese shot it down quick. “About the 500 million from the divorce settlement, make sure you transfer it to my account soon. Otherwise, I’ll just go ahead and get a court order.”
Zacharias was left speechless.
She yanked her arm free and walked off, never looking back.

Right then, Zion approached them with a huge bouquet of flowers.
“Zion? What are you doing here?”
Anneliese was surprised and delighted. She’d thought after turning Jonathan down so firmly and slipping away last night, he’d be pissed and cut her off for good.
Clearly, she’d underestimated the man’s character and generosity.
Zion handed over the flowers with a grin. “Ms. Claude, Mr. Fullbuster picked these out himself. He said, even though you turned down his proposal, he still wants to congratulate you for finally escaping your misery. From now on, your life will be nothing but freedom and sunshine.”
When Anneliese saw the bright, colorful bouquet, her eyes lit up with genuine happiness.
“Mr. Fullbuster really knows how to make a girl feel special. I totally forgot to bring flowers!” Jessica chimed in.
“I love them. Please thank Mr. Fullbuster for me,” Anneliese said while accepting the bouquet from Zion.
Zion smiled. “He wanted to give them to you himself, but he had a big meeting today. He wrote the card by hand, though.”
Anneliese pulled out the card.
Jonathan’s handwriting on the card flowed with style and confidence — just right for his bright wishes about freedom and sunshine.
Her lips had just curled into a smile when a hand suddenly shot out from over her shoulder and snatched the card away.
“Zacharias! What is your problem?”
Annoyed, Anneliese spun around and tried to grab it back.
However, Zacharias was faster, tearing the card into pieces and crumpling it up.
She glared at him. “Zacharias, you’re petty, ridiculous, and twisted with jealousy. It’s honestly pathetic.”

“My son is outstanding and worth a fortune. You’re just a barren, cast–off woman who can’t have a child. How dare you call him pathetic?”
Just then, a familiar, sharp voice cut in from behind.
Anneliese turned and saw Melody and Lenora coming quickly toward them. Coral trailed closely behind them, her eyes fixed hungrily on the divorce papers in Zacharias‘ hand.
Anneliese had no interest in making a scene with Melody outside the City Hall, so she grabbed Jessica and tried to make a quick exit.
However, Melody blocked her path. “Wait! Don’t forget what you promised. Delete the video before you leave!”
Back when Melody had come with Anneliese to file for divorce, Anneliese had threatened to leak a racy video of Zacharias and Coral.
Melody had demanded she delete it on the spot, but Anneliese said she’d do it once the divorce was finalized.
Melody had shown up for two reasons–to see her son’s divorce go through and to make sure Anneliese deleted the video. After all, her son was a public figure—she couldn’t let Anneliese hold that over him forever.
Anneliese looked at Melody with a bland expression and tossed her a USB drive from her bag. “Everything’s in here.”
