Chapter 208 You Should Leave
Anneliese’s words made Melanie freeze at the doorstep.

Melanie stared at her in disbelief. “What do you mean, barging into someone’s home? I’m your mom! This apartment belongs to the White Family too!”
She tried to push her way in, but Anneliese didn’t block her.
Reluctantly, she let Melanie bring the maid inside.
“Grandma left me this house. It’s been officially transferred into my name for ages. It is separate from the White Family,” Anneliese said, arms crossed.
Melanie plopped down on the sofa. With her legs crossed, she let out a sharp laugh. “Isn’t she my mother–in–law? If this house is separate from the White Family, do you really think she would’ve left it to you?”
Anneliese didn’t bother arguing. “If you’ve come to claim the house, hire a lawyer. They can sort out the ownership with me.”
She had already made a mess of the banquet, throwing the White Family into chaos.
Already annoyed, Melanie had come personally to see Anneliese. She expected Anneliese to feel touched and maybe even apologize.
Instead, Anneliese remained cold and unyielding. Melanie felt her temper flare and almost slammed her hand on the table, but he remembered why she had come.
She took a deep breath, forcing her voice to soften. “Anne, I’m not here to take the house. I know about Zacharias‘ affair and that you’ve divorced him. You’ve got nowhere to stay–I wouldn’t dream of asking you for the house now.
“I just came to see how you’re doing. After seeing that you’re managing well… I can finally relax.”
Anneliese cut her off sharply. “I’m in a rush this morning. Breakfast isn’t ready, and I’ve got to head out soon. Just spit it out.”
Melanie hesitated, clenching her fists before speaking. “The company’s in trouble, Anne. There’s a five billion shortfall that needs covering fast.
“You’re close to Mr. Fullbuster–could you maybe smooth things over with the bank and get them to approve a loan for White Inc.?”

Anneliese knew Melanie didn’t ask for favors lightly, but she hadn’t expected her to be this bold.
She stared at Melanie in disbelief. “You’ve set your sights on me? Looks like the bank wouldn’t approve the loan anyway. Even so, why do you think Jonathan would be the gullible one to foot this bill?
“Jonathan and I are just friends. I don’t have that kind of pull. I can’t help you. You should leave.”
Her cold tone and firm stance made Melanie’s brows shoot up in frustration. “How can you say that! At the dinner, you were all over Mr. Fullbuster–everyone saw it! How is that ‘just friends“? The Fullbuster Group is worth a fortune. They even own a bank.
“Mr. Fullbuster is the heir. Getting him to approve five billion for White Inc. would be a single word from him! Even if you skip the bank, five billion from him would be pocket change!”
Anneliese let out a small laugh. “Even if that amount is pocket change for him, that doesn’t mean that he is a fool throwing money. Now, scram!”
“Why you! What good does White Inc.’s bankruptcy do for you? You’re already in your second marriage. Without our family backing, do you really think you’d have a chance to marry into the Fullbuster Family?”
Is she out of her mind? A guy only starts taking you seriously when he’s already invested in you. That’s the rule–she should be piling on the stakes while he’s hooked!
Look at Mr. Fullbuster–he’s surrounded by women left and right. If she doesn’t make moves for herself now, will she just sit there and wait for him to lose interest, letting some other woman swoop in and take her spot?
I’m only looking out for her. The White Family doing well means she will do well. She’d better wake up
and think about that!
Anneliese stepped forward and yanked Melanie along, pushing her toward the door. Melanie barely registered a word.
However, as Anneliese reached the doorway with her, the door swung open, revealing a tall, imposing figure of a man standing right there.
Melanie’s expression shifted instantly.
Anneliese froze momentarily. Then, she flushed, a mix of embarrassment and anger painting her features. Jonathan’s definitely heard what she just said! I’m so busted right now.

Melanie’s expression twisted in shock, jumping to the wrong conclusion that Anneliese was living with Jonathan.
Before Melanie could finish, Anneliese clamped a hand over her mouth and shoved her toward the door. She pushed Melanie and the maid was sent tumbling outside.
Then, she grabbed Jonathan by the arm and yanked him back inside.
With a loud bang, the door slammed shut behind them.
Outside, Melanie pressed the doorbell a few more times. After a while, realizing Anneliese wouldn’t answer, she fell silent.
Inside, the entryway was thick and awkward with silence.
After a long moment, Anneliese finally looked up at Jonathan, her voice tinged with embarrassment and frustration. “You… You heard all that, didn’t you?”
Jonathan didn’t try to hide it and nodded. “She is definitely sharp. She’s not even hiding her intentions.”
“I…” Anneliese’s voice trembled softly. “I’m sorry about that…”
