Kellan’s voice was calm and resolute, and it seemed to pierce straight through Sean’s heart.
Sean struggled to control his trembling body and forced a wry smile as he said, “Mr. Carter, stop messing with me. If I can’t even remember it myself, how could you possibly know? Let me try to think a bit harder.
“Well, I forgot to mention–this entire flat has security cameras, and the footage is kept for six months. If you really can’t remember, we can just check the recordings,” Kellan said casually.
Hearing this, Sean’s face turned pale. He opened his mouth, but no words came out. He could only stare wide–eyed at Kellan, who was watching him with a mocking smile.
Finally realizing he’d been played for a fool, Sean clenched his fists. But not daring to anger Kellan, he relaxed his hands and managed to force a strained smile.
“It was just a misunderstanding. I suddenly remembered where I put it. Mr. Carter, Miss Lambert, please wait. I’ll go get it right now,” he said, trying to salvage the situation. He maintained a strained smile, his steps slow and reluctant.
Neither of the two showed any intention of hurrying him. Instead, they just watched him intently. Sean could feel the sweat soaking through his shirt, sticking it to his back.
No matter how much he tried to stall, the living room wasn’t that big. After just a few minutes, he reached the TV stand. With a face twisted in misery, Sean pulled out the black object from under the stand and handed it straight to Kellan.
Kellan gave a satisfied nod before casually adding, “I can see you’re loyal–someone worth keeping around. I’ll take this for now. Also, Miss Lambert has some questions for you.
“Just answer her honestly, and don’t worry about anything else. I’ve got your back. You know what I mean, right?”
Kellan’s intense gaze made Sean shiver. Quickly nodding, Sean forced a fawning smile.
Zina walked over to Sean. “You mentioned before that you and Andy have some issues.
“Funny thing is, I’ve been doing a little digging myself lately, but there are still a few things I don’t quite understand. Maybe you and I can have a proper talk about these?”
It felt like a heavy blow hit Sean head–on, leaving him stunned. He hadn’t expected that Zina wou. harder to deal with than Kellan.
even
Sean pressed his lips together, forcing out a strained smile before saying, “Miss Lambert, all that stuff is in the
past.
“I’ve been tormented by it for a long time, but I realized recently there’s no point obsessing over it anymore. I might as well focus on living my life now.”
“Oh, really?” Zina blinked, then flashed her usual sunny, carefree smile. “Of course, that’s not the point. What really matters is that the trial is about to start…”
