Chapter 35
Chapter 35
“Now if you don’t mind, I’m just going to have to draw out a little bit of your blood Eva, and I’ll run some tests on you. Is that okay with you?” Olivia murmured to the little girl as she took her seat close to her,
With Eva staring deeply into her eyes while still holding onto Ethan’s arm, all she could see was warmth in Olivia’s eyes and she had never once seen that in her mother’s eyes,
Something felt so different about Olivia, and Eva could feel it no matter how much her mind kept screaming that Olivia was just a stranger,
She gently nodded her head,
“That’s great. Pass the the small container Ethan,” Olivia uttered and once the container was handed to her, she kept it close to Eva,
“Now this isn’t going to hurt, I promise you, but it’ll only be that way once you shut your eyes and believe it wouldn’t really hurt you. You can hold your dad as much as you want whenever you feel even the slightest bit of pain,”
Eva nodded her head and shut her eyes just like Olivia had instructed. She only opened them upon hearing her voice,
“You did a great job, cupcake; we’re all done,” Olivia uttered and when Eva opened her eyes, her gaze met Olivia’s warm smile and she smiled back,
“I’m so proud of you baby,” Ethan muttered, leaning close to her face. He planted a soft kiss on her forehead,
“Where’s Mommy, Daddy?”
Hearing Eva call for her mother, Olivia instantly collected the container on the bed. “I’ll excuse you two for a moment. I’ll be back shortly.”
“Thank you,” Ethan responded, watching as she walked until she was out of the room. He pulled his daughter closer and murmured,
“She’ll be here soon baby, she will.” She muttered and kissed her again.
As soon as Olivia shut the door, she leaned on it with her crutch beside her, heaving deeply. Her face certainly reminded her of Shirley and no matter how much Olivia didn’t want to think about it, she just couldn’t,
She bit her lower lips, “She’s just a kid, Olivia. She’s just a kid.” Olivia mumbled to herself but her eyes flung open when she heard a familiar voice,
“You again?”
When she opened her eyes, Shirley was standing a few meters apart from her with a deathly glare. Seeing Shirley, Olivia immediately stood upright and heaved deeply. There was no need to exchange words with Shirley because, to her, it was just a total waste of time,
“You still aren’t over Ethan, are you? You were never really one to let go of things so easily and yet you left him six years ago.” Shirley muttered as soon as Olivia walked past her, and hearing this, Olivia instantly halted..
Shirley was right, she wasn’t one to give up so easily, but there was something that gave her the strength to walk away from her marriage six years ago and it was Noah,
Her precious baby boy gave her all the strength that she needed,

“I think you should worry more about your daughter, that’s your priority right now with the way I see things, Shirley, else I’ll be forced to believe you really don’t care about her,” Olivia responded and continued to walk, heading towards the elevator. It was clear that she had held in her anger back there because as soon as the elevator door shut, she curled her hands into fists and bit her lower lips,
Shirley ruined her life and her marriage six years ago, and here she was, helping the one pet she despises most of all.
Fate had a funny way of displaying itself, and Olivia was going to watch and see how it ended.
“You’re late,” Ethan muttered as soon as Shirley stepped into the ward. She halted right in front of the door, staring at Eva peacefully asleep on Ethan’s thighs,
A loud scoff escaped Shirley’s lips and she instantly threw her bag on the floor,
“What the hell do you think you’re trying to do, Ethan? Are you trying to steal my daughter away from me and make that bitch her mother instead?” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice,
“Not now, Shirley; Eva needs all the rest she can get. We can do this some other time.” He muttered back, trying so hard to hold back his anger for the sake of Eva,
Shirley stormed towards him,
“I’m taking my daughter away from you this minute, Ethan. I’ll take care of my daughter so you’re free to go back to that whore.” Shirley yelled with red eyes, but just when Ethan was about to respond, they both heard Eva’s voice,
“Mommy?” She muttered softly, and Shirley nodded her head,
“If you really want to keep seeing your daughter, then you’ll cancel whatever business you have with Olivia. Else, I’ll take her as far away from you as possible, mark my words.” Shirley uttered, but Ethan remained silent,
She sat down on the other side of the bed and began rubbing Eva’s hair gently,
“What took you so long?” Ethan finally questioned after a few minutes of silence,
“I had to go get some groceries to fill up the house.” She responded but he scoffed aloud,
“Your daughter is sick and you had to go get groceries?”
“It’s just a minor sickness. A lot of kids survived cancer, too, and so she would. She’s stronger than she looks.” Shirley responded coldly, and when her phone buzzed in her bag, she brought it out in a hurry.
A message popped at the screen and Shirley widened her eyes once she read it,
“I need to go now; I’ll be back to check up on you tonight, baby.” She uttered, planting a soft kiss on Eva’s face and rose to her feet afterward,
“Where are you heading to?”
“I have an appointment with a famous doctor, Ethan, and it’s for my daughter’s treatment because the last thing I would do is sit by and watch your damn ex–wife stand 2 meters close to my daughter,” Shirley responded and began heading towards the exit.
As soon as she stepped out of the room, she unlocked her phone and began texting,
“Meet me at the restaurant in 20 minutes and don’t you dare be late.”
