Chapter 21
Before I could spiral, the door opened and a doctor stepped in, white coat pristine, tablet in hand. He gave Alexander a nod. ” There’s something we need to discuss in private, Alpha.”
Alexander looked at me briefly, his eyes calm and reassuring, then followed the doctor out.
I stayed with Felix, gently tucking the blanket around him. He caught my hand again and asked in a small voice, “Do I… still have to stay here?”
I hesitated.
“You’re going to be okay, sweetheart,” I whispered, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “We’re doing everything we can to help you get better.”
He nodded, still unsure, but eventually closed his eyes and rested his head back on the pillow.
Not long after, Alexander returned and motioned for me to join him in the hallway.
We walked to the end of the corridor, where it was quiet, and he finally spoke.
“Felix’s recovery is slower than we expected. If tomorrow’s tests go well, we’ll move to the second phase of treatment. But for now, we need to keep a close eye on him to avoid complications.”
I felt my chest tighten.
“And his healing rate?” I asked.
Alexander’s expression darkened. “Far below what’s normal for a wolf pup. It’s… not good.”
I stared at him, stunned. “That’s not possible. He’s an Alpha’s child.”
He looked me in the eye, his tone grave. “I suspect it’s because of the suppressants–especially the ones Foster gave you during your heat.”
The blood drained from my face.
“You’re saying… what he did to me… is affecting Felix?”
He nodded. “And we need to find out if the drug is still in your system. If it’s the same compound that’s suppressing your wolf, we might be able to reverse it.”
“You want to test me?” I asked, my voice suddenly small.
“Yes, Sum.“His voice was gentle, but firm.
I hesitated, then slowly nodded.
If there was any chance I could bring Aurora back… I had to try.
We went straight to the medical wing. The moment the doctor heard our explanation, his expression turned serious. He immediately began the tests.
Two long hours later–bloodwork, scans, endless questions–the doctor returned with the results.
“There’s a synthetic compound in your bloodstream,” he said, his tone professional but concerned. “It suppresses the wolf’s presence temporarily. Normally, it wouldn’t cause permanent separation. But when combined with psychological trauma, it can lead to prolonged disconnection.”
“So… Aurora can come back?” I asked carefully.

The doctor nodded, but his expression remained cautious. “Theoretically, yes. But it would require a powerful trigger. Usually, the presence of a bonded mate–their scent, their energy–can draw the wolf back.”
Alexander looked at me then, and something flared in his eyes–something intense, something I couldn’t quite name.
“So Foster could help her?” he asked through gritted teeth, his voice strained.
I shook my head, pain rising sharp and fast in my chest. “I’m not going back to Alpha Foster,” I said, steel in my voice. “Even if it means I never get my wolf back.”
And in that moment, I heard it again.
A whisper–soft, faint, unmistakable.
“You don’t have to go back to him… your mate…”
I froze, glancing around in shock. But all I saw was Alexander, watching me with concern.
“Are you alright?” he asked, his voice low and gentle.
“L… I just heard her again,” I whispered. “Aurora. She was speaking to me. But… I don’t know if I imagined it.”
The doctor leaned in slightly, intrigued. “That’s a good sign. If you can hear her, the connection is still there–it’s just suppressed.”
Alexander’s eyes lit up like dawn breaking through a stormy sky.
“We’ll figure this out, Summer,” he said firmly. “I promise.”
His voice was so certain, so steady, that it warmed something inside me.
In that moment, I didn’t feel so alone anymore.
I nodded slowly, and for the first time in a long while… I felt hope begin to bloom.
