Chapter 62
Summer’s POV

I woke to the sound of birds chirping outside the hospital window, momentarily disoriented by the unfamiliar surroundings. Alexander was already awake, his hair slightly disheveled, making him look unexpectedly boyish despite the powerful aura that constantly surrounded him. He was speaking quietly on the phone, his voice a low rumble that sent pleasant shivers down my spine.
When he noticed me stirring, his expression softened. “Morning, beautiful. Felix is doing well – nurses checked on him twice during the night.”
I stretched, feeling the kinks in my back from sleeping in the uncomfortable hospital bed. “Can I see him?”
“Doctor Miller said we can visit as soon as you’re ready.”
I quickly freshened up in the small adjoining bathroom, splashing cold water on my face to chase away the last vestiges of sleep.
The pediatric recovery ward was quieter than I expected as we made our way to Felix’s room. A nurse intercepted us before we reached his door.
“Luna? Your son woke up about fifteen minutes ago. He’s been asking for you.”
My heart leapt at the news, and I quickened my pace, Alexander’s steady presence right behind me as I pushed open the door.
Felix was propped up against several pillows, his small face still pale but considerably more alert than the previous evening. The bandage remained over his left eye, but his right one brightened immediately when he spotted me.
“Mom?”
“Hey, sweetheart,” I rushed to his bedside, carefully gathering him in my arms. “How are you feeling?”
“My head hurts a little,” he admitted, “but Dr. Miller said that’s normal.” His hand tentatively touched the bandage covering his eye. “When can I see out of it?”
“They’ll remove the bandage tomorrow if everything continues healing well,” Alexander answered, moving to stand at the foot of the bed. “How’s the hospital food, pup? As terrible as I remember?”
Felix’s nose wrinkled. “They gave me jello. The green kind. I hate green jello.”
“Tragic.” Alexander’s expression was comically serious. “Should I stage a jello heist and smuggle in the
red kind?”
Felix giggled, the sound making my heart swell. “Yes, please!”

We spent the next hour with Felix. Then Dr. Miller stopped by, checking his vitals and examining the surgical site with satisfied nods.
“The integration is progressing exceptionally well,” he informed us. “At this rate, we might be able to remove the bandage this evening rather than tomorrow.”
Felix perked up at that news. “Really? Can I go home after?”
Dr. Miller chuckled. “Let’s see how things look later today before making any promises.”
A knock at the door interrupted us, and I turned to see Ethan, Alexander’s Beta, standing in the doorway. His expression was apologetic as he caught Alexander’s eye.
“Alpha, I’m sorry to interrupt, but may I speak with you and Luna for a moment?”
Alexander nodded, placing a reassuring hand on Felix’s shoulder. “We’ll be right outside, pup. Don’t let the nurses give you any more green jello while we’re gone.”
In the hallway, Ethan’s expression turned serious. “I hate to bring this up now, but I wanted to remind you that the Council hearing regarding your divorce petition is scheduled for today at afternoon.”
My stomach dropped. With Felix’s surgery, I’d completely forgotten about the hearing scheduled with the Werewolf Council regarding my divorce from Alpha Foster.
“I’ll reschedule,” Alexander said immediately, his hand finding mine. “Felix needs us here.”
“No,” I said, surprising myself with my firmness. “You can’t reschedule a Council hearing, not without serious consequences. Felix is stable, and we’ll be back before he even knows we’re gone.”
“Are you sure about this?” Alexander asked quietly. “I can handle the Council alone if you need to stay with Felix.”
I shook my head. “No, this concerns both of us. Besides, I need to face Alpha Foster head–on if I ever want to be truly free of him.”
Alex’s expression darkened at the mention of Alpha Foster’s name, but he nodded. “Let’s get it over with then.”
After Dr. Miller completed his morning examination–confirming that Felix was healing perfectly and could begin initial testing of the prosthetic that afternoon–we reluctantly prepared to leave for the Council hearing.
“Be good for Lyra,” I instructed, kissing Felix’s forehead. “No trying to peek under the bandage until Dr. Miller says it’s okay.”
“I promise,” he replied solemnly.
“We’ll be back as soon as possible,” Alexander assured him, ruffling his hair affectionately.

The sleek black SUV waited for us outside, a driver and additional security already positioned. Alexander
helped me into the backseat before sliding in beside me, his thigh pressing against mine as the vehicle pulled away from the curb.
As we pulled onto the highway, I couldn’t help my growing anxiety. “You seem very confident about this hearing.”
Alexander’s lips curved into a mysterious smile. “Let’s just say I’ve been preparing for this day for a long
time.”
“What does that mean?”
His hand found mine, his thumb tracing circles on my palm. “Trust me, little wolf. By this afternoon, any
claim Alpha Foster had on you will be ancient history.”
