Caught off guard by Channing’s true intentions, Savannah blurted out the question that had been on her mind.
“Isn’t Winona coming back soon? Why do you still want to do it with me?”
The atmosphere fell into a hushed silence.
Channing narrowed his eyes, and as his icy gaze met hers, Savannah bit her lip, slowly realizing the gravity of the mistake she had made in trying to protect her child.
However, what she said could not be taken back.
Channing’s grip on her nape resembled the powerful talons of an eagle ensnaring a vulnerable rabbit.
“Did you investigate me?”
“I–I didn’t,” stammered Savannah, never expecting Channing to perceive it that way. “M–My mom informed me about the news when she visited me yesterday. As you know, my mom has been working for the Guthrie family as a housekeeper for over 20 years.”
“Humph, so your mom gave you a heads–up from her position at the Guthrie family and wants you to be cautious around Winona?” Channing asked.
Channing’s lips curled into a sinister smile. The next moment, his fingers traced her neck before clutching it “Savannah, don’t even think of pulling any tricks, Winona is not someone you can afford to meddle with.”
As he uttered each word, he gradually tightened his grip on her neck. “Winona has an old spine injury. If something happens to her and she suffers, I’ll make you suffer even more.”
Savannah gasped desperately for air, her heart aching intensely as if it might shatter into pieces.
She was devastated because Channing had jumped to a conclusion without inquiring about the details from
her.
Another reason was that Channing was aware of Winona’s spine injury, but he remained unaware of Savannah’s despite sharing a bed with her for three years. The constant pain would afflict her when she was fatigued or engaged in strenuous activities such as exercise or dancing.
However, after careful consideration, she concluded that her injury was nothing compared to Winona’s and didn’t deserve Channing’s attention at all.
With that, Savannah closed her eyes in desolation. As the pain slowly sapped her strength, she began to contemplate whether succumbing to such a fate wouldn’t be such a terrible option after all.
As he witnessed a sickly pallor engulf her complexion and noticed how she had slowly stopped fighting for life, an inexplicable surge of emotions coursed through Channing’s heart. In an instant, he released his grip

With that, Channing turned around and reentered the private room without so much as another glance in Savannah’s direction.
After spending some time sitting in the empty parking lot, Savannah eventually stepped out of the car. Leaving Channing’s vehicle behind, she gritted her teeth against the pain in her back and slowly dragged her feet outside in search of a taxi.
What might have been a five–minute walk for an average person turned into an exhausting half–hour journey for Savannah, and her body was on the brink of collapse.
Fortunately, Savannah’s pain miraculously subsided upon her return home. However, her stomach emitted at growl, indicating that her baby might be hungry.
The observant Gilbert had noticed Savannah’s craving for pickles earlier in the morning. Thus, he specially prepared a plate of pickles for her to enjoy with her oatmeal porridge.
However, the very same mouthwatering pickles she had eyed in the morning turned out to be incredibly sour the moment Savannah took a bite. It was so sour that it sent shivers coursing through her body, and her eyes welled up with tears.
At that moment, her phone pinged, and a glimmer of pitiful hope emerged within her heart as she reached for it. However, she discovered it was a message from Delia.
It read: [Remember to take the fertility medication.]
Savannah rested her cheeks in her palms, and tears began streaming uncontrollably down her face.
Later, Delia sent another message, instructing Savannah to record a video of herself preparing and consuming the medicine, along with a photo of the emptied bowl. The older woman clearly wanted to monitor Savannah from a distance.
However, Savannah did not reply to her.
She deemed it unnecessary to keep the child and that she was undeserving of it.
“Maybe sending you back to heaven and letting you go to a better mother would be best for
you.
Savannah murmured in a low voice as she lay in bed and slowly closed her
eyes.
Her dreams as if mirroring her daytime thoughts, brought her back to the past when she was still living in the Guthrie residence with Delia.
Winona craved some strawberries that day, so Delia washed a plate full of them before asking Savannah to send it upstairs to Winona’s room.
Upon pushing the door open and entering the room, she was taken aback by the sight of the listless and indifferent Channing, who was standing behind Winona, and giving the young woman in the chair a back
massage.

Winona’s face flushed red with embarrassment when she saw Savannah enter, seemingly caught off guard by her arrival. She mumbled something along the lines of “my old injuries don’t bother me as much now” while. hastily rising from the chair, abruptly terminating the massage session.
The next moment, Channing’s hands gently stopped Winona.
Channing turned his icy, relentless gaze toward Savannah, who had inadvertently invaded their privacy and disrupted their moment. Then, he parted his lips and bluntly commanded, “Leave”
She should not have intervened and disturbed the couple, who were a match made in heaven.
Savannah woke up with a heavy heart, sensing a profound ache within her. She discovered a wet stain on her pillow and the empty space beside her in bed, where another presence had been noticeably absent.
For the past three years, Channing had consistently come home no matter how late it was. However, two days prior to Winona’s return to the country, he had begun to stay out all night.
After quietly regaining her senses, Savannah washed the tear–stained pillowcase, ate breakfast, and called a cab to the company. Upon arrival, she steeled herself, making an appointment online for the gynecology department.
However, when the words “Appointment booked” appeared on the screen, a shadow was cast upon her as someone loomed over her.
“What are you doing?”
Channing, whom she had not seen for the entire night, suddenly appeared before her. His piercing gaze fixated on her.
Savannah’s face suddenly turned pale. She panicked, her eyes darting aimlessly as she subconsciously replied, “N–nothing. I still have a headache, so I scheduled an appointment with the hospital to check it.”
Channing did not respond.
The intensity of his penetrative gaze had diminished regardless of whether he bought it or not.
After a moment, he finally spoke, “Send me the time. Since you have a headache, I’ll arrange for someone to go with you.”
“No!” Savannah gasped inwardly.
A wave of panic washed over Savannah as she raised her hand in a gesture of refusal.
Unexpectedly, that frantic motion led her to fling her bag out, causing its contents to spill.
Among the scattered items was the headache medicine Channing had given her in the parking lot yesterday. which remained unopened.
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the vicinity plummeted to an icy chill.
Channing looked down at the perfectly sealed medicine box and sneered. “You say you have a headache but

refuse to take the medicine I gave you. Savannah, are you trying to gain my attention by hurting your body?”
“I–I wasn’t
Savannah knew it was all over for her when the medicine came tumbling out.
Before she could feel a pang of sadness or attempt to explain herself, Channing was already dragging her to
his office.
Next, he firmly pressed her against the wall. He leaned closer imposingly, his hot breath grazing against her: he growled lowly, “Since you won’t take the medicine, I’ll give you something else.”
Savannah’s face flushed, and she was on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Ultimately, a whole hour passed before Savannah was released. She hurried into the exclusive lounge in the CEO’s office to wash her hands and rinse her mouth.
It was difficult for her to reapply her lipstick with trembling hands.
Just then, Channing’s phone rang again outside the lounge.
In an instant, a multitude of thoughts swarmed Savannah’s mind,
Probably because she still refused to give up or because she was in denial, she secretly wondered to herself, “Could the calls he had been getting frequently in the past two days not even from Winona? Are the exceptions he made to reply to messages and even staying up late to talk on the phone for hours really only for work? After all, I have no evidence to prove the person on the other end is Winona, right?”
Savannah tried her best to reassure herself, but as soon as a glimmer of hope flickered in her heart, Channing answered the phone with a hoarse, attractive voice, “Winona.”
Savannah was stunned. Quickly, she smiled wryly and excused herself with her head hung low, Then, she made a hasty exit from the CEO’s office.
Now, Savannah had proof that the person on the other end was Winona. She was nothing more than a “thief” who came in between their relationship.
It seemed like she could not stay in denial any longer.
