“Mm.” Channing narrowed his eyes, displaying neither satisfaction nor dissatisfaction on his face, all the while maintaining his grip on her neck. “I believe you had something to say in this morning’s report, but Lucas cut you off. Now’s your chance to speak.”
Savannah remained silent for a moment.
She was aware that Channing had noticed something amiss in her expression while he was interrogating Gilbert.
In truth, Savannah had been prepared to step forward and confess that the report was hers at that time.
But now, Savannah had sorted out the mess of her emotions. She lifted her head and met Channing’s gaze directly. “I have nothing to say. Mr. Muir. At that time, I simply wished you’d stop making things difficult for Gilbert.

Given the recent series of events, Savannah had come to the conclusion that she should undergo an abortion.
Hence, she didn’t see a need to bring up her pregnancy to Channing and cause him to suspect her of pulling certain tricks to intentionally get pregnant for no reason, thus drawing another round of humiliation and threat to herself.
Savannah was genuinely utterly drained.

But to her surprise, Channing, who she thought should be satisfied with her sensible response, appeared even more irritated, and even his breath seemed to blaze like fire.

In Channing’s view, Savannah was simply a crafty, untrustworthy person willing to use any means necessary to reach her goals.
Back in the day, someone as gifted as Channing could have easily married the precious daughter of a prominent family like Winona, but that all changed because of that one glass of water that Savannah brought to him.
In a despicable twist of fate, Savannah had held back someone so exceptional, ultimately damaging his relationship with Winona.
However, Savannah herself didn’t fully comprehend this matter either.
“Mr. Muir, if you really didn’t trust me, why did you agree to a marriage contract back then?” Savannah suddenly spoke up in the midst of silence. “Did you marry me just to protect our reputation after we were caught in bed by others?”
“Yes.” Channing started the car, his tone devoid of emotion as he said, “But it’s also because, to me, every woman other than Winona is the same.”
To him, it didn’t matter who he married. After all, it was purely a loveless contract marriage. Since Savannah had thrown herself to him, he thought he might as well make the most of the situation, and both of them. could benefit from each other. That was killing two birds with one stone.
Savannah remained silent in the car for a long time. In all honesty, she already had a vague answer in her heart. After all, ten years ago, she had chanced upon the teenage Channing proposing to Winona

Winona was deeply moved, covering her quivering lips with her hand as tears flowed.
Like any blissful couple, she extended her hand, allowing Channing to slide on the ring that signified his vow to be with her for life. In that moment, their pain seemed to dissipate, replaced by the warmth of their sweet embrace.
In stark contrast, Savannah hadn’t experienced such a touching scene.
After the accidental intimacy between her and Channing, there were no proposals or ceremonies. The only remnant of their union was when, in a hospital, she knelt and desperately begged her mother not to remove her father’s oxygen mask. Channing, in response, then arranged for her to be taken to City Hall for a quick marriage registration.
Later, it was even his mother, Martha, who purchased a pair of wedding rings and urged Savannah to convince Channing to wear them, fearing they would look improper without them.
On that day, she clutched the rings and anxiously awaited Channing’s return home, unaware that Winona had a performance abroad that same day

While she sat alone on the couch, waiting from dusk till dawn, her old spinal wound began to ache from maintaining the same posture for so long. Eventually, she decided to stow away the wedding rings in a drawer, never to bring up the subject again.
That was the moment when Savannah became truly self–aware.
However, it seemed that the weight of past memories was taking a toll on her, even affecting her pregnancy.
All of a sudden, Savannah’s stomach churned, and she felt the urge to vomit.

As luck would have it, they arrived at the Muir residence just in time. “I’m going to the bathroom,” Savannah quickly said, then opened the car door and rushed inside, unable to resist puking her guts out.
Fortunately, Channing didn’t follow her and was still recovering from the unpleasant experience in the car earlier.
Alone in the bathroom, Savannah continued to vomit until there was nothing left in her stomach. Then, with a pale face, she sat on the toilet, took out her phone with trembling fingers, and made another appointment for surgery at a women’s hospital.
When the words “Appointment Confirmed appeared on the screen, Savannah clutched her abdomen and finally let out silent tears.
