After staying in the bathroom for a while, Savannah calmed herself down and washed her face before walking
out.
At this time. Channing was not in the room.
Savannah didn’t know whether he was working in the study or talking with Winona on the phone in the yard, nor did she have the strength to find out. All she wanted was simply to rest early in bed.
However, right then, her phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and saw that it was none other than Delia.
There were only a few simple words in the text message that read: [Come out. I’m at your doorstep.]
Savannah compressed her lips tightly. Finally, she pulled herself together and touched up her lipstick in front of the mirror to make her look more energetic, then walked out of the house. “Mom, why are you suddenly here? And why didn’t you come in-
Before she could finish her words, a crisp slap suddenly sounded.
Savannah stumbled backward from the force. She didn’t expect that she would be slapped after she tried so hard to recompose herself.
Furious, Delia said sharply. “I asked you to send me videos and photos of your fertility medication. Why didn’t you
do it? Savannah Turner, I painstakingly got those medicines for you. Why don’t you know how to be grateful!*
“Grateful?” Savannah closed her eyes while covering her stinging cheek. “I’ve told you more than once that I don’t want to drink that fertility medication and to stop bringing it to me. You’re the one who always refused to listen! Mom, if you really want me to be grateful, can you take on your responsibilities and help me take care of Dad in the hospital more instead of keeping track of my ovulation dates?”
On the verge of a mental breakdown, Savannah continued with reddened eyes, “Sometimes, I really wonder if I am your daughter and whether Dad is your husband!
hy years.
This was a question she had been wanting to ask for many
Delia had been stern and indifferent to Savannah since the latter was a child, so much so that Savannah almost never received a single compliment from Delia.
for Savannah’s father, Walter, he and Paul had a car accident ten years ago. Delia, who should have stood with Savannah and trusted her husband, controversially added fuel to the fire instead, even discreetly going to the hospital several times in hopes of consenting to give up Walter’s medical treatment.
Therefore, Savannah was completely bewildered.
She wondered, “Is Mom really related to Dad and I?”
“Y–You unfilial daughter! How dare you question your biological mother like this!” Delia’s face stiffened

briefly. Immediately after, she seemed to see red and raised her hand directly, wanting to slap Savannah a
second time.
Savannah had long prepared for it, so she didn’t intend to be beaten passively.
However, just when she stepped back and tried to dodge it, a pair of big hands had already pulled her into an embrace. Concurrently, Delia’s raised hand was also firmly grasped.
Savannah’s eyes widened in slight astonishment. When she looked up the next second, she saw Channing. who was nowhere to be seen earlier, now standing beside her.
In a momentary trance, she suddenly felt that her initially weary body seemed to have some energy again.
Meanwhile, Delia was especially surprised. “M–Mr. Muir, why are you here? Today is the day that Ms. Guthrie is coming back. Aren’t you going to the airport?”
“Mrs. Turner, not only are you concerned about Savannah’s matters, but you’re concerned about Winona and 1, too?” Channing glanced at the woman lightly and sneered. “If I don’t do as you say, will I have to be slapped
as well?”
The formidable man’s gaze was as piercing as daggers.
In a flash, an overwhelmingly horrifying aura emitted from him, causing Delia, who was still behaving tyrannically in front of Savannah a moment ago, to dare not even raise her head anymore.
“Um. I’m really sorry, Mr. Muir. I was being a little rough and impulsive just now, but that’s what happens between a mother and a daughter. Having a little conflict is unavoidable.” Delia looked at Savannah with an awkward smile. “Savannah, quick, help me explain to him about it. I’m right, aren’t I?”
“You can go.” Savannah neither wanted to complain about Delia to Channing nor help the latter.
She took a deep breath and went on in a low voice, ‘Don’t come to see me in the Muir residence again. I won’t come out to meet you next time anymore.”
“W–Why are you so petty? You’re really mad at me now?” Delia’s expression froze for a moment, but she could only continue laughing dryly while gritting out, “All right, I’ll go back for now and come talk to you again when you’re no longer this impulsive… By the way, Mr. Muir, Ms. Guthrie is coming back today. She hasn’t returned home in three years. If you go and pick her up, she will surely be overjoyed!”
After saying that, Delia hurried away without waiting for Channing’s answer.
Her figure then blended into the darkness and disappeared.
Savannah stood in the same spot and watched silently. Recalling how her mother was still sincerely hoping for Winona’s happiness before leaving, Savannah clenched her fingertips and felt the sting on her face spread all the way to her heart as though she was being pricked by a needle.
She withdrew from Channing’s arms and wanted to return to her room to hide.
However, when she arrived at the front door, Channing grabbed her wrist and said in a low voice, “Apply some medicine before getting some rest.”

Chapter 11
“Aren’t you going to the airport? Savannah subconsciously asked.
Channing frowned and didn’t answer, merely looking at her with his handsome face, making her legs go weak a linle
Like a coward, Savannah shrank her neck and subsequently gave in. He followed Channing to the living room and raised her petite face, allowing him to apply medicine to her.
His h
hands were still a little icy after he washed them.
When he applied the medicated cream on Savannah’s burning, reddened cheek with his slender fingers, she felt that her gloomy mood had instantly become much better and couldn’t help looking at the man before her blinkingly like an obedient rabbit watching a wolf.
Channing’s eyes grew increasingly dark. The next moment, he put down the medicated cream and pinched her chin. “Does it not hurt anymore?”
“I–It’s better now, but it still hurts a little… Worried that Channing would do something else, Savannah instinctively struggled carefully with reddened eyes. “I’ll likely feel better after getting some quiet sleep”
“Mm.” Channing stared intently at Savannah as if he had already guessed that she would give such an answer.
Next, he let go of her, wiped his hands with a wet wipe, and got up to pick up his coat. “Go and rest, then. I’m going to the airport. Don’t wait up for me tonight.”
Savannah was stunned, but when she looked up again, Channing had already totally disappeared from her sight.
In the meantime, the heavy rain that had stopped seemed to be pouring again.
Sitting on the couch, Savannah smiled bitterly in self–deprecation while listening to the sound of the car driving away from the Muir residence as Channing headed for his beloved woman.
Apparently, she had overthought earlier.
She ridiculously assumed that Channing actually had some feelings for her deep down when in reality, he was the same as Delia.
Their favor and adoration were given exclusively to Winona.
The next day, Channing still didn’t come back as usual.
Perhaps because it was after the rain, the morning sunlight was particularly bright today. Savannah got up at dawn, got dressed, and went to work as normal.
However, this time, shortly after she sat at her desk, someone ran into her office with a cup of coffee.
