Chapter 12
“Anna, why did you come to work so early?”

Lucas entered the assistants office with a cup of coffee and looked at Savannah in surprise, saying, “Mr. Muir told me you were sick, so I thought you might need a couple more days of rest!”
Channing said I was sick?” Savannah thought as she shook her head, finding it somewhat amusing Mr. Muir has always prioritized business matters, so how could he mention my illness to you? Besides, knowing his personality, I won’t get any extra rest even if I’m sick
After all, Channing valued efficiency.
Just like all capitalists, he believed as long as one could breathe, they should work hard.
However, Lucas was not lying. “Everything I said is true! Take the land in Bruiville as an example. Mr. Muir asked me to temporarily take over to help you, precisely to relieve your pressure and allow you to take good care of your health at home.”
“Really?” Savannah smiled faintly.
Lucas was unaware that Channing had feelings for someone else. He only knew about Savannah’s relationship with Channing
Savannah didn’t argue with Lucas anymore but didn’t take his words too seriously either. “If you want to help me, how about pouring me a glass of water? It’ll save me a trip to the pantry,” she said.
“Why do you need water when I’ve got coffee here, Anna?”
Lucas offered the coffee in his hand. “These are coffee beans my dad brought from abroad. You can be the first to taste the first cup, Anna!”
“No, that’s okay.” Savannah paused briefly, then took the glass of water and explained. “Tve been drinking too much coffee lately, and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I’ll stick with water.”
“Is that so?”
Lucas blinked his eyes with a hint of confusion.
Lucas remembers Savannah, who was Channing’s executive assistant and Lucas’s mentor on his first day of internship, would drink coffee daily to remain alert and focused.
Lucas pondered, “Has Anna stopped drinking coffee? It looks like her health is exactly as Mr. Muir described it. She needs to take some time to rest!”
Lucas pondered seriously and decided to spend the day helping Savannah with her workload to lighten and relax her.
When Savannah saw this, she thought Channing was preparing to dissolve their contract marriage and leave her without any financial support. So, she decided to delegate her power and assign important tasks to Lucas. She hoped that when the time came for that sincere and innocent young man to become the executive

assistant and take over her work entirely, he would not be overwhelmed.
Maybe her body got tired easily because she was pregnant.
When she finished working, Savannah could not help but fall asleep in the car.

She was surprised to find the car parked in front of the Muir manor when she awoke half an hour later. thinking she had arrived home.
Savannah asked, “Why are we here?”
“You finally woke
- up.
Channing closed his laptop and looked at Savannah. “Melanie has returned from her graduation trip abroad and brought gifts for everyone. So Mom said that since Dad is away on a business trip, we should all get together for dinner.”
Savannah thought, “Oh, I see.”
Melanie Muir was Channing’s younger sister. She was the same age as Savannah but had always been pampered by the family. Her biggest hobby was organizing gatherings and events.
Due to Savannah’s humble background, she might not have been invited by Melanie if not for her marriage to Channing
So Savannah was also tactful and tried to minimize her interactions with Melanie whenever possible.
To Channing, that may not have mattered much. In a man’s view, minor conflicts between women could never be more significant than having a peaceful family.
Now that they arrived, Savannah breathed deeply and followed Channing from the car into the Muir manor.
Meanwhile, in the magnificent and vintage–styled living room, Melanie, dressed in a white Chanel outfit, sat obediently beside Martha. She was busy showing off the various souvenirs she had brought back, exuding an air of carefree joy.
When Savannah walked in with Channing. Melanie’s happy smile instantly disappeared. She just looked at Channing and said, “Channing, you’ve finally arrived. It’s been several months since we last saw each other!”
“I have work to do. It’s not like I have nothing to do like you,” Channing replied nonchalantly.
Melanie was speechless.
She thought, “Is he saying I’m a spoiled rich brat?”
Melanie was furious. “Channing, why do you always scold me whenever you see me? I’ve just graduated!”
“Alright, alright! I know you’ve just completed your postgraduate studies.”
Martha gently patted Melanie on the head, took charge of the situation, and uttered, “Channing is right. Now that your study is over, it’s time for you to focus on your career, like Savannah. She started working at the

company and made rapid progress to become your brother’s right–hand person.”

Martha looked down on Savannah’s social status and resented her meticulous calculations. However, when it came to Savannah’s workability, Martha had a strong sense of confidence and appreciation.
However, Melanie’s expression became even more disdainful as she listened to those words. “Savannah’s rapid improvement is because she’s the daughter of a housekeeper, with a useless father and a mother who doesn’t love her. Even her husband doesn’t like her. Of course, she has to work hard. But I’m different. My parents dotes on me, and my brother is Channing Muir. So, isn’t it normal for me to be happy and carefree?”
Martha didn’t know what to say.
There was a sudden silence.
Melanie’s words were offensive, showing her intentions without a doubt.
However, Savannah remained expressionless because she knew Melanie did not do it intentionally. She had become accustomed to such comments for a long time.
After three years in the Muir family, she had to listen to the spoiled young lady every time she met Melanie, emphasizing their vast differences.
Melanie was always confident because no one would blame her for it.
As expected, Channing did not react and appeared to believe Melanie’s words were true and valid.
Martha cleared her throat in embarrassment and glared at Melanie. “Why are you getting more and more stubborn? Savannah is your sister–in–law!”
“Channing didn’t blame me. Why are you so anxious, Mom?”
Melanie lifted her chin and boldly asserted, “Besides, Winona is back now. Whether or not Savannah will remain as my sister–in–law is still uncertain!”
“Are you up to something again?” Martha had a premonition of trouble and asked in a low voice.
As soon as Martha had finished speaking, the butler walked in with an awkward expression and told her, “Mrs. Muir, Ms. Winona Guthrie is here. She’s at the door.”
Savannah was surprised. Her usual calm expression finally changed, and she even felt nervous!
Savannah quickly turned and ran upstairs after saying, “Martha, I’m going to the bathroom.”
She didn’t want to sit at the same table and eat with Winona.
Actually, she wanted to escape through the restroom window and avoid the situation altogether.
She could go anywhere, as long as it was not the Muir residence.
However, some people would not let her have her way. After Savannah had been in the bathroom for ten minutes, one of the Muir family’s housekeepers knocked lightly on the door and reminded her, “Mrs. Muir,
