The next day, early in the morning, the phone at the Muir residence started ringing frantically.
This time, however, it wasn’t because of company matters. It was because the fight over Winona at the Elegance Club the day before had escalated into a major issue.
It turned out that the man Winona had screamed at and smashed a bottle over was not just anyone. Despite his intimidating demeanor, he was the young master of the Westin family, a prestigious family with a century–long scholarly tradition.
Samuel Westin was taken to the hospital at midnight yesterday. After he was stitched up with eleven stitches, the elders of the Westin family took the matter to the Muir manor the same night. They demanded Martha to hold the justice.
Although Martha was usually easygoing, she had never been confronted like this.
She rushed to the Muir residence early in the morning and was so angry, slamming the table in the study. “Channing, have you lost your mind? You let Winona hurt someone out there!”
Channing remained silent for a moment. Then he lifted his gaze from the documents to Martha. “Mom, Mr. Westin bullied Winona first. Winona acted in self–defense.”
“You’re talking nonsense!”
Martha had already investigated the matter thoroughly before coming over. “Winona claims that Samuel touched her first, but Samuel said he was sitting at the bar talking to his friends. It was Winona who suddenly yelled at him and hit him. He didn’t do anything!”
“That’s impossible,” Channing said calmly. “Winona doesn’t have to lie,” he added.
After all, Winona had no reason to lie to him.
However, Martha was on the verge of losing her temper. “Channing, have you been bewitched? Why would Winona, a girl with no outstanding beauty or family background, be worth Samuel from the prestigious Westin family risking their future and reputation by flirting with her in public?”
Martha had also seen the surveillance video from the Elegance Club that day.
However, Samuel and Winona were in the surveillance blind spot, making it impossible to verify their claims.
It wasn’t that Martha was weaving conspiracy theories, but she found the situation odd. She pondered, ‘It seems Winona has deliberately created a chaotic situation to accomplish something.
Winona was the one who caused the chaos, but she’s gone into hiding since the incident, leaving Channing to handle everything.
Is this the behavior of a well–behaved young lady?‘
Martha shook her son frantically. “Channing, you’ve always been smart, but why are you so clueless when it comes to relationships and women? Winona is pretentious. She may act innocent and cry in front of you.

Even if she saved you, she’s a scheming woman!”
“Mom…”

Channing stepped aside, feeling a headache, and said in a deep voice, “I asked Winona not to get involved in this matter. Don’t make a fuss.”
“What do you mean by make a fuss?” Martha glared at Channing. “Do you think I have poor judgment about people?”
Channing didn’t answer directly but phrased his question differently.
“Then who do you think is not scheming?”
“Savannah!” Martha replied without hesitation. “Despite her humble background, I believe Savannah is a good and innocent girl. Someone like Winona must not deceive you. Don’t lose Savannah for the sake of Winona!” she added.
Channing chuckled and didn’t answer.
In his heart, he had already concluded that his mother couldn’t judge people accurately.
Three years ago, Savannah had drugged him, and since then, she had repeatedly acted provocatively in front of men, drawing attention wherever she went. To him, she was the one with hidden depths.
When Martha saw that, she knew that Channing didn’t believe her. After all, she had her doubts, too.
However, after three years of observing Savannah, she gradually changed her view of the girl.
Perhaps Savannah had inadvertently climbed the Muir family ladder.
But Martha couldn’t make it clear to Channing. She could only growl, “Channing, I can’t control you, but remember what I’m telling you. The day you discover Savannah’s true nature and lose her, your real suffering will begin!”
