Skye’s P.O.V.
“Skye,” Lila started, her voice sharp and biting and tipsy,
“I hate how you don’t want to show off your talent. You’re ridiculously talented, and yet you just… hide it.”
I blinked, taken aback by her sudden change in tone.
“Lila, it’s not that simple-”
“Not that simple?” She cut me off, crossing her arms over her chest. Her cheeks were flushed, whether, from the cold or the alcohol, I couldn’t tell.
“It’s like you’re keeping secrets from me, Skye. As if you are keeping yourself hidden from me,
and I hate that.”
I frowned, my heart tightening at the frustration in her voice and the honesty in her drunken personality.
“I’m not trying to keep anything from you, Lila. Some things are just… personal.”
“Personal? We’ve been living together for two weeks now, and you’re still this closed-off mystery,” she shot back, her voice trembling slightly. She took a step closer to me, her eyes
narrowing.
“And another thing-I hate how you’re so incredibly hot.”
I wasn’t sure if I’d heard her right.
“What?”
“You heard me,” Lila said, her voice lowering into a growl.
“You’re stupidly hot. It’s messing with my head, Skye. I have these…. these dreams, and it’s all your fault!” She yelled, throwing her hands in my direction. I couldn’t help it-I laughed. I didn’t mean to, but the absurdity of the situation was too much.
“Dreams, huh? What kind of dreams?”
Lila’s blush deepened, and she looked away, biting her lower lip.
“You don’t want to know.”

“Try me,” I teased, still grinning. Because hell yes, I wanted to know!
Lila looked back at me, her eyes shining with defiance.

“Fine. Since you’re so curious and all,” she said, her words slightly slurred but her intent clear.
“I dream about you, okay? About you and me… doing things.”
My smile faltered.
“Doing things?”
“You know exactly what I mean,” Lila snapped, stepping even closer.
“Things like kissing, and touching, and… other stuff. And in these dreams, you’re not just some quiet, brooding guy with secrets. You’re… you’re intense. Passionate. And you make me feel things I’ve never felt before.”
My breath caught in my throat as Lila’s words hit me like a punch to the gut. I could see the sincerity in her eyes, the way her gaze didn’t waver even as she laid herself bare to me. She was right there in front of me, sharing her innermost thoughts with me, and it both thrilled
and terrified me at the same time.
“And you want to know the worst part?” Lila continued, her voice dropping to a whisper.
“I wake up, and I’m mad. Mad because it’s not real. Mad because I can’t have that in real life, because you’re too busy keeping your distance from me all the damn time.”
Before I could respond, Lila closed the distance between us. Her lips crashed against mine with a fervor that took me by surprise. For a split second, I froze, my mind reeling, but then my instincts took over. I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her close as I returned the kiss with equal intensity.
Her hands slid up my chest, fingers gripping the fabric of my shirt as if she was afraid I might pull away. But I had no intention of letting go, not ever. My inner wolf, Cooper, howled in satisfaction, finally getting what he’d been longing for since the moment we had met her.
Lila’s kiss was everything I hadn’t realized I needed. It was fiery, demanding, and full of pent-up emotion. She kissed me as if she was trying to pour all her frustration, anger, and desire into that one moment, and I was more than willing to take it all.
When we finally broke apart, both of us were breathing heavily. Lila’s eyes were wide, her expression a mix of shock and satisfaction.
“That… that’s what my dreams are like,” she whispered.

I swallowed hard, my heart pounding in my chest.
“Lila, I…”
But she shook her head, placing a finger over my lips.

“Don’t. I’m drunk, and I probably shouldn’t have said any of what I had just said. But I did say it. And now… now you know.”
I nodded, still too stunned to form a coherent response. But as soon as Lila had pulled back, breaking the kiss, my entire world seemed to come crashing down around me. The warmth of her lips lingering on mine, the taste of her, the feel of her in my arms-my control snapped. Without thinking, without hesitation, I stepped forward to her, closing the gap she had just created between us.
My hand cupped the back of her head as I leaned down, capturing her lips in another searing kiss that left no room for doubt on my end. This time, it was me who was demanding, pouring every ounce of my pent-up desire, frustration, and need into that kiss. I wanted her to know how much I wanted her as well, how much she already meant to me, even if I couldn’t find the right words to say it.
Lila responded immediately, her fingers clutching at my shirt again as she kissed me back with equal fervor. Our tongues a tangled mess. The night air around us seemed to crackle with electricity, the world fading away until there was nothing but the two of us, locked in that intense, passionate embrace on the porch of my old family home.
My hands roamed, sliding down her back, pulling her closer, as if I could somehow merge our bodies into one. The way she felt against me, the way she molded perfectly to my frame ignited something primal inside me. My inner wolf, Cooper, was practically roaring in approval by now, urging me to take things further, to claim her as my own, right here and now.
But just as my hands began to wander even lower… just as I was about to lose myself completely in the heat of the moment, Lila suddenly stiffened. She pulled back from the kiss, her face paling in the dim light.
“Lila?” I asked, concern cutting through the haze of desire.
Lila took a shaky step back, her hand flying to her mouth.
“I-oh no…” she managed to choke out before doubling over, I barely had time to react before Lila retched, throwing up right there on the front porch. My reflexes kicked in, and I moved quickly, holding her hair back and steadying her as she emptied the contents of her stomach onto the worn wooden planks my father had once installed when I was still a baby.
“Lila, it’s OK,” I murmured, rubbing her back in soothing circles, though my heart was racing

for an entirely different reason now.
“Just breathe.”
Lila groaned miserably between heaves, clearly embarrassed and uncomfortable.

“I’m so sorry,” she mumbled once she could speak again, still bent over and clutching her
stomach.
“Don’t be,” I said gently, even though my mind was spinning from the sudden shift in events. One moment we were kissing, and now… this.
Lila straightened slowly, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, her cheeks flushed for an entirely different reason now.
“I didn’t mean for that to happen,” she said, her voice small, and a little sheepish. I chuckled softly, despite the situation.
“It’s OK, Lila. It happens.”
She looked up at me with wide, slightly watery eyes.
“I ruined the moment, didn’t I?”
I shook my head, giving her a reassuring smile.
“You didn’t ruin anything. Let’s just get you inside and get you some water, OK?”
Lila nodded, still looking a bit mortified but grateful for my understanding. I wrapped an arm around her shoulders, guiding her back toward the house, away from the mess on the porch. My heart was still pounding, the memory of our kiss lingering like an electric current in my veins, but all that mattered right now, was making sure Lila was OK.
