Anna grew more impatient when Mark remained silent inside the storage room.
“How long are you staying in there? Did Catherine actually do something terrible in there?”
“How could she be so inconsiderate? Just because we didn’t send Stephanie away back then?”
“I raised Stephanie since she was little! How could I bear sending her to suffer in that dirty countryside?”
“And now she puts on airs while making the storage room reek! She needs to be taught a lesson!”
Anna ranted angrily as she stormed into the storage room, determined to uncover Catherine’s
mischief.
But she froze upon entering.
Catherine was… dead?
She’d just argued with Stephanie three days ago!
Nathan noticed something wrong and hurried inside, equally stunned by the sight.
His pupils contracted at the sight of dried blood on Catherine’s skull.
He began trembling violently.
“How… how did this happen?
The stairs weren’t that high! I controlled my strength!”
Mark turned to Nathan with bloodshot eyes and handed Anna the nearly crumpled medical report
“It wasn’t just your push, Dad. It’s related to her illness…”
“Catherine… had gastric cancer for three years…”
Nathan stared at the diagnosis date in disbelief-the very day they’d brought Catherine home.

But what had they done that day?
Stephanie had gotten into a car accident after their confrontation. Consumed by hatred for Catherine,
they’d shoved her into this storage room without proper quarters,
forced her to kneel before a priest for repentance,
and subjected her to three years of humiliating tests!
Nathan finally grasped his actions, but regret came too late.
“Enough! Why stand around gawking at a corpse? Call the hospital to move it to the morgue!”
Anna’s chilling composure stunned both men.
Why… why wasn’t she grieving Catherine’s death?
“Hurry and get someone to remove her before she stains the room!”
Without another glance at Catherine’s body, Anna turned and left.
None noticed her trembling figure and unsteady steps.
In the morgue,
the medical examiner approached the Nguyens with the autopsy report.
“The deceased indeed had advanced gastric cancer from the pathology report.”
Flipping through pages, he added,
“She also bore numerous old injuries from repeated beatings. Was she your daughter?”
“Since she was your daughter… why treat her this way?”
Nathan swayed, his face turning deathly pale in an instant, utterly speechless.
Mark stared at his hands, remembering how he’d grabbed Catherine by the hair and forced
her down.
When he let go, clump after clump of hair clung to his fingers.

She’d already been gravely ill then, yet he hadn’t noticed-
just slammed her head hard against the floor…
Mark’s hands trembled as a surge of guilt rose from heart.
Catherine’s corpse was swiftly disposed of,
and Anna immediately locked her ashes in the storage room upon receiving them.
“Catherine’s dead, so be it. From now on, no one mentions her again-we still have our lives
to live!”
Mark opened his mouth to speak but closed it upon seeing Anna’s expression.
An indescribable feeling stirred inside him.
Catherine was gone… yet Mother acted as if nothing happened. So cold…
He clenched his fist, then released it.
Whatever. There was never any affection anyway. Dead meant dead. Stephanie was his only
true sister.
But why did his heart ache so fiercely?
Nearby, Stephanie’s lips curled at the corners as she witnessed everything.
With Catherine dead, those past incidents were now buried forever.
A flash of triumph crossed Stephanie’s eyes.
Catherine, you died at the perfect time. Thank you for surrendering the entire Nguyen family
to me.
From now on, she was the undisputed Nguyen heiress!
