The William Family.
Sophia and her family had moved in some time ago.
When William came out of the study, Sophia was in the living room packing John’s schoolbag.
William picked up the coffee nearby, frowned as he took a small sip, and immediately set it down.
Surprisingly bitter.
He was momentarily stunned.
These were all ordinary when Emily was home, why are they different now?
William just looked up, his eyes stinging.
In the end, he said nothing, just straightened his cuffs, “I’m going to the office.”
All day at the office, he felt a tightness in his chest.
He called Eleanor, telling her he had a business dinner tonight.
As he spoke, he realized even his desire to go home had faded.
Because when he returned, only emptiness greeted him.
At the evening dinner, he barely spoke.
Before, when Emily was there, she’d cover for him and pick out dishes he disliked.
Now, he could only stare at the rotating dishes, not even knowing what he liked to eat.
“William, remember you used to always bring Emily along?
Why didn’t you bring her today?”
William looked up, “She’s gone.”

“Back in the day, Emily was really good to you,” one of William’s buddies chimed in, “Every time we ate, she’d wait for you to finish before picking up her chopsticks.
She knew your tastes best.”
By the end, his spirits were completely gone.
Downing a large glass of wine, he hurried home.
Home was as quiet as usual, even the hallway light was off.
Pitch black, William felt a surge of anger.
At the entrance, there were no slippers prepared.
“Eleanor… Eleanor…”
When Eleanor came, she only brought a cup of hot water.
William casually waved his hand, and the cup shattered on the floor.
“I don’t want water, I want lemon juice.”
He shouted at Eleanor, his eyes dark and unreadable.
“Sorry, William.
Since Emily left, I haven’t been familiar with your habits.”
William pressed his temples, “Don’t you know how to make lemon juice?”
Eleanor trembled with fear, sweat dripping, “Emily used to buy the ingredients herself for the lemon juice, sometimes simmering it for hours.
She never told me the exact recipe, and she always took care of your daily needs personally.”
