Chapter 10
William’s heart felt struck as he tasted the lemon juice Eleanor brought; after just one sip, he knew it was off, worlds apart from Emily’s.
Bitter and greasy.
In an instant, a strange emotion welled up.
It turned out those things were done by her, day by day, accumulating his habits.
And prepared step by step with her own hands.
He knew that in the past, she truly cared deeply for this little home.
But never before had he felt his heart skip a beat quite like this.
Perhaps he truly owed her something.
William stood in the center of the kitchen, the cold gleam of marble countertops reflecting off his dark expression.
Eleanor stood pressed against the corner wall, not daring to breathe.
“Emily once told me she loved you. She said everything done for someone you love is worth it. Why say it?”
“But as her mother, how could you not know where she went?”
William’s fingers absently tapped the countertop.
“She only said she was leaving. Never mentioned where.”
Ever since marrying Emily, no matter how late he returned from business dinners, a glass of lemon juice always waited on the living room coffee table.
William lost himself in these thoughts.
Only the next day, through inquiries, did he discover Emily had already regained her single
status.

The problem traced back to that agreement he’d signed for Sophia.
He pressed his temples, a wave of melancholy washing over him.
When Sophia returned, he lifted his gaze, expression stern. “That agreement-you made her sign it, didn’t you?”
His question made Sophia’s heart stutter. “Wh-what agreement?”
“Have I made myself clear?
The divorce papers-did you force Emily to sign them, then lie to me saying it was a property purchase agreement?”
Sophia paled, her face instantly falling.
“N-no, not me.
Seeing her still refusing the truth, William slammed the divorce contract onto the table.
Faced with irrefutable evidence, Sophia fell speechless.
William surged up from the table, towering over her, fury blazing in his eyes.
Just then, a text notification popped up-his investigators’ report revealing Sophia had sent Emily a forged paternity test that very night.
William’s fist clenched involuntarily, his gaze turning vicious as it locked onto Sophia.
“Quite the schemer, aren’t you? To stoop this low.”
