The next morning, Ralph took Mary to the Thompson residence early.
Mary handed over a bank card first.
“Mom, this card has some money-consider it your birthday gift.”
Kathleen looked at Ralph, who stated: “Take it. It’s her sincere gesture. She’ll deposit monthly filial support from now on.”
Mary nodded with a smile.
She didn’t mention this contained over ten million-all proceeds from selling her pre- marriage stocks and jewelry.
Consider it repayment for the debt of life and upbringing.
Kathleen teared up emotionally: “Wonderful!
I’m glad you’ve come around, Mary. Build a happy life with Ralph now. Our family can finally rejoice.”
The birthday celebration buzzed with warmth.
Afterward, Kathleen asked Mary to take her brother house-hunting in three days.
Ralph didn’t object, so Mary agreed.
Leaving the Thompsons, Ralph’s phone rang-Karen was calling.
Noticing this, Mary tactfully suggested: “Go ahead if it’s urgent. I’ll cab back to the villa.”
Ralph gave a curt “Hmm.”
Before leaving, he reminded: “I’ve already announced your pregnancy. We’ll appear before media soon-rest well these days.”
“Alright.”
As Mary responded, Ralph strode away urgently.

In the hospital, Ralph’s chest clenched with inexplicable dread.

Ralph’s fingers froze mid-dial.
Swiveling toward the physician, he ordered: “Preserve this pregnancy at all costs!”
Karen spoke weakly from the bed: “Mr. Walker, I’m scared. If you could stay with me, I’d feel more at ease. Then the baby would rest more comfortably inside me…”
Ralph frowned at her swollen belly, thinking for a moment before texting Mary: [Not coming home these days. Remember to take your brother apartment hunting in 3 days. Stay put.]
After sending it, he sat by Karen’s bedside, soothing her: “Rest well. I’ll stay with you while you rest for the baby.”
Three days passed like this.
Ralph remained at the hospital, closely monitoring the fetus.
Suddenly, Kathleen called: “Ralph, is Mary with you? Weren’t you supposed to take her brother apartment hunting today? Why isn’t she answering?”

He shot to his feet. Mary had blocked him?
