I woke the next morning to the scent of coffee and bacon.
Padding into the kitchen, I found Alexander at the stove, wearing only a pair of low–hanging sweatpants that showcased his perfect ass and the muscular planes of his back.
“Morning,” I murmured, wrapping my arms around his waist and pressing my cheek against his warm skin.
He turned in my embrace, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled down at me. “Good morning, beautiful.” He leaned down to kiss me, a slow, thorough exploration that left me dizzy.
When he finally pulled back, his gaze dropped to the oversized t–shirt I wore–his shirt–and his eyes darkened appreciatively. “You look good in my clothes.”
I reached around him to snatch a piece of bacon from the plate. After taking a bite, I raised an eyebrow at him.
“Mmm… this is actually really good. Tell me, Alpha, have you cooked breakfast for other she–wolves too, or am I just special?”
His lips curved into a smirk as he leaned closer, his voice low and amused. “Only you, Summer. You’re the only one I’ve ever wanted to impress in the kitchen–or anywhere else.”
“Oh,really?”
He chuckled, sliding an arm around my waist and murmuring in my ear, “You’re cute when you’re jealous. So cute, in fact, that I’m seriously tempted to take you back to bed and ruin that shirt all over again.”
Immediately, my mind flashed to the night before–his hands, his mouth, the way he whispered my name like it was the only word he knew.
Nope. Not going there again.
I decided to switch topics.“Lyra told me about Natalia Thompson’s disgrace.”
His body tensed slightly, then deliberately relaxed. “Did she now?”
“Mmhmm.” I hopped up to sit on the counter beside the stove, watching his face. “She seems to think you had something to do with it.”
Alexander’s expression remained carefully neutral as he flipped a pancake. “And what do you think?”
“I think…” I traced the sharp line of his jaw, “that you are far more protective than you let on. And far more dangerous to your enemies than they realize.”
His eyes darkened, and in one fluid motion, he moved between my legs, hands gripping my thighs as he

pulled me to the edge of the counter. “Does that frighten you, Luna?”
I stared up into those predatory eyes, “No,” I whispered truthfully. “It makes me feel safe.”
His expression softened, and he lowered his head to claim my lips in a kiss that started gentle but quickly blazed into something more urgent.
By the time he pulled away, we were both breathing hard.
“Whatever happened to Natalia Thompson,” he said carefully, his hands sliding under my shirt to caress my bare skin, “happened because she threatened what’s mine. I protect what’s mine, Summer. Always.”
The possessiveness in his voice sent a shiver of desire down my spine. I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. “Show me,” I breathed against his lips.
His wolf flashed in his eyes, turning them to molten gold as his hands began to roam my body with purpose. “With pleasure, my Luna.”
With a low growl, Alexander claimed my mouth again, this time with an intensity that left me gasping.
His hands traced the curves of my body.
“Alexander,” I gasped, pushing against his chest as the smell of something burning reached my nose.” Breakfast!”
He growled, reluctantly pulling away to save the pancakes, though his eyes never left me.
“Eat quickly,” he ordered, his voice rough with desire as he adjusted himself in his sweatpants. “You’ve awakened the beast, Luna. Now you need to take responsibility.”
I rolled my eyes, though heat pooled low in my belly at his words. “Damn it. You’re an erection with legs.”
He laughed, pulling me back against him. “Only for you, sweetheart. Only ever for you.”
Just as his hands slipped beneath my shirt again, his head snapped up, eyes distant in the way that meant he was receiving a mind–link.
“Ethan?” I guessed, grateful for the interruption–after everything Alexander and I had done last night, I needed at least one morning without being dragged back into bed.
He nodded, his jaw had gone tight, and the light in his eyes had shifted, troubled. “Pack business. I need to go.”
My smile faltered. “What’s wrong?”
Alexander shook his head slightly. “Nothing you need to worry about.”
He leaned in, pressing a kiss to my lips–but even that felt rushed, distracted.

I watched him walk away, his back straight but his steps tense.
Had something happened in the Pack?
