Anneliese asked, “Aren’t you the least bit worried I’ll clean you out if we ever split?”
Jonathan arched a brow. “Would you?”

Her head shook fast, then wobbled into a nod. “I mean, I’d like to think no… but let’s be real. Money makes people do dumb things. You’re sitting on a fortune, and I’m scared one day I won’t resist.”
The corner of his mouth tugged upward. Her fake gold–digger act clearly entertained him.
“You won’t,” he said simply. “I trust you.”
The truth was, part of him secretly hoped she cared about his wealth. If she clung to his money, maybe she’d never even think about leaving. It was the only thing he had in abundance.
Seeing that he wasn’t rattled in the slightest, Anneliese let the topic die.
She passed the laptop back. “Oh, I forgot to tell you–I’m not heading to Westrough just yet. Prof. Clocke and George are coming back to Oceaton to set up a lab. I’ll decide on where to live once I’ve checked out the lab’s location. Is that okay?”
Jonathan was well aware of the lab’s location. In fact, those villas he’d shown her had been chosen with that location in mind, along with his own commute. He wasn’t about to tell her that, though.
“Alright,” he replied, closing the laptop.
Her phone buzzed.
It was Ella Dudley, her real estate agent. Anneliese shot Jonathan a glance before stepping aside to take the call. “Any updates on the villa?”
“Yes,” Ella answered. “We’ve got an all–cash bid, two million above market. The buyer…” Her tone faltered.
Anneliese narrowed her eyes. “Who is it?”
There was a long silence before Ella finally confessed, “It’s your ex–husband. Are you—”
“Not selling to him,” Anneliese snapped, her tone firm.

After a beat, she added, “Knock the price ten percent below market and close it quickly, but put in a condition–the buyer can’t flip it for at least three years.”
The last time she visited Sunrise Residence, Zacharias had actually hung their wedding photo again. The memory made her skin crawl. There was no way in hell she’d let that house fall back into his hands–whether he bought it himself or got it through someone else.
Jonathan set the laptop aside, his gaze following her across the room.
AeroAir Headquarters.
Jonathan cut across the lobby, heading straight for the CEO’s private elevator. Near the staff lifts, three women in uniform were bunched together, gossiping in low voices.
“Oh my god, it’s like something out of a drama! Did your sister actually say yes when her ex proposed?”
“Of course she did! The guy’s hot, totally obsessed with her, and apparently the founder of a major tech company. Childhood sweethearts, too. I mean, seriously–who in their right mind divorces a man like that?”
Zion’s steps slowed. The story sounded a little too close to home. His gaze shifted, and sure enough, Selina was standing right in the middle of them.
She had a video playing on her phone.
He caught a glimpse and almost choked.
“What the hell is that?” Zion demanded.
The three women jumped. “Ah! Mr. Harland! Good morning, Mr. Fullbuster!”
Selina pulled her phone back, her face flushing. “It’s nothing, Mr. Fullbuster. Just a clip I recorded for Anne. They happened to see it, got curious, so I showed them…”
Jonathan’s voice came out low and sharp. “Show me.”
Selina froze, clutching her phone tighter. “You really want to see it? I don’t think that’s such a good idea…”
Just in time, the staff elevator dinged open. The other two women already sensed trouble and quickly rushed inside, abandoning Selina behind.

Jonathan’s stare locked on her like a blade. “You didn’t just camp out here on purpose, did you?”
His tone wasn’t a question.
Selina stiffened, then forced a scowl. “How could you even think that? If I really wanted to—”
He didn’t let her finish. A glance at Zion was enough; Zion was already stepping into the private elevator.
“Mr. Fullbuster!” Selina blurted, panicked that he would actually leave. She moved to follow, but Zion shifted into her path with a cool half–smile.
The doors slid shut. Jonathan was gone.
Selina bit her lip, seething.
Zion tilted his head, his smirk sharp. “Didn’t you claim just now that Mr. Fullbuster took it the wrong way? Why are you freaking out now?”
Her nails dug into her palm, though her face stayed stiff with denial.
