Chapter 324 You’ll Stay Upstairs With Me
For a moment, Jonathan was speechless. Turns out I really got the wrong idea.
For once, he felt awkward. He rubbed the bridge of his nose, a rare sign of discomfort.
Because of this, the ride back was unusually quiet.
When they finally arrived at Maple Bay, Anneliese practically bolted out of the car.

They stepped into the elevator together. When Anneliese saw Jonathan press the button for the penthouse, she quietly sighed in relief.
Good. He is planning to go back to his own place tonight.
She lifted her hand to press the button for her floor, but before she could touch it, his hand caught hers midair.
Startled, she looked up at him.
His gaze was steady, unreadable. “Until we move into the house, you’ll stay upstairs with me.”
Anneliese pursed her lips, clearly reluctant. “That’s not really necessary, is it? Moving back and forth is a hassle. Why don’t we just keep things as they were for a few more days? Besides, Meatloaf’s still at home.”
Jonathan’s dark eyes held hers firmly. “I told you before—I don’t intend to start this marriage living apart.”
When he wasn’t smiling, his presence was heavy, intimidating.
If she kept refusing, she’d just sound petty. So, she nodded. “Alright, fine. Let me grab some things and bring Meatloaf over.”
Jonathan’s gaze flicked over her heels and the evening dress under his coat. “You look exhausted. Just tell me what you need, and I’ll get it. You should shower and rest.”
He wasn’t wrong. Her feet were killing her–she hadn’t worn heels in ages, and now that he mentioned it, she could hardly stand straight.
She gave in. “Alright then… get my pajamas, a few changes of clothes, my skincare stuff from the vanity… oh, and my phone charger.”
By then, the elevator had reached the top floor. The doors opened, and just as Anneliese

stepped forward, Jonathan suddenly bent down and scooped her into his arms.
She instinctively clutched at his neck, wide–eyed, staring at the strong line of his jaw.

He carried her inside, pushed the door open, and set her gently on the entryway cabinet. Then he crouched down, taking hold of her ankle.
“Wait–I can do it myself.” Anneliese jerked back, flustered.
But his grip only tightened, his voice low and commanding. “Don’t move.”
His hand was warm against her skin, the pressure searing like fire around her ankle.
She froze, too stunned to argue, as he slipped off her heels.
He turned, opened the shoe cabinet, and pulled out the fuzzy bunny–eared slippers they had once bought together at the store. He slid them onto her feet with quiet care.
“All set.” He stood, lifted her down by the waist, and guided her into a bedroom. As he opened the bathroom door, his tone softened. “Go shower. I’ll grab your things.”
“Okay.” Anneliese nodded and slipped into the bathroom.
She was halfway through when there came two light knocks. Jonathan’s low baritone carried. through the door.
“I left your clothes on the handle.”
“Got it.”
His footsteps faded. Anneliese finished quickly, wrapped herself in a towel, and blew her hair dry before peeking at the door. No sound. She opened it, grabbed the bag hanging there, and brought it inside.
When she saw what was on top–an airy white lingerie set–her ears instantly burned.
She changed into pajamas and finally stepped out.
Only then did she notice the room properly.
It was big, decorated in a sleek, minimal style that felt a little stark. But the gray bedding, the men’s jacket tossed carelessly over the couch near the balcony, and the stack of finance magazines on the nightstand all pointed to one thing.
This was Jonathan’s room.

Anneliese froze. She had assumed she would be put in a guest room—just like when he stayed at her place downstairs, he always used the spare room. Apparently, she had guessed wrong.
“Why are you just standing there?”
The deep voice came from behind her.
She turned to see Jonathan stepping inside. He looked like he had showered in another room.
