And now you think the Donovan family isn’t good enough for you? Let me tell you,

As Sylvia yanked at her hair, Juliette felt as if she were being dragged back into the same dark abyss she had barely escaped from.
She had thought getting out of prison meant a new beginning.
She had thought that after three years of unjust suffering, they would at least feel a shred of guilt.
But she was wrong.
Born into the Monroe family, as long as she was still breathing, they would squeeze every last ounce of value from her.
She wondered whether, even in death, they would still exploit her, tearing her apart just to arrange a marriage she would never live to see.
The car pulled into the Monroe Residence.
A few maids grabbed Juliette’s arms and shoved her into a storage room.

“Mom, open your eyes and look at me! I’m your daughter too! Marrying the third son of the Donovan family will ruin my life!” Juliette tried to grasp Sylvia’s hand.
But Sylvia shoved her away in disgust. “Having a daughter like you has always been my misfortune. Do you have any idea how much business Monroe Pharmaceutical lost because of the trouble you caused back then?”
“I’ll make money to pay you back! Just don’t sell me!” Juliette rubbed her hands together anxiously.
Three years in prison had left her thin and frail, like a gust of wind could blow her away.
“You? Make money? Even if you worked the streets every night, you wouldn’t earn enough to pay us back! The decision is final. Just accept it and be a good bride.” Sylvia stood up and turned to leave.
“I’ll call the police! What you’re doing is no different from kidnapping!” Juliette mustered her courage. She refused to live a life where others controlled her fate.
“You ungrateful brat! After living off us for over twenty years, you think you can just turn around and call the cops on us? Do you really think you’re something now?”
Sylvia had been about to leave, but Juliette’s words infuriated her. She spun around and kicked Juliette hard.
Juliette crumpled like a rag doll, collapsing onto the cold floor of the storage room. A metallic taste filled her throat.
“Listen to me, don’t make us force you. We’re sending you to the Donovan family, where you’ll live in comfort. At least we’re not marrying you off to some old man in a poverty–stricken village. You should be gratefull”
“There are ten days until the wedding. She can eat when she comes to her senses.” Leaving those instructions to the maids, Sylvia turned and left to play poker with the other wealthy ladies.
