Chapter 5 Taking Care of a Cat or a Dog
“What are you, anyway? You’d better watch your words. Could it be that you’re that b*stard from three years ago?” Lucas asked with a cold laugh.
He wasn’t bad–looking.
But if he was from a wealthy family, Lucas would’ve seen him around Newton. He probably was just a pretty face with no substance, a useless person.
Max furrowed his brows.
Juliette stepped forward.
“Enough! If you want to know who the man from three years ago is, you’re better off asking your dear daughter, Vivienne! She knows better than anyone! As for how I met him, I don’t owe you a full explanation. You never treated me like a daughter, so I don’t need parents like you! Get out! Get out right now!” Juliette shouted, pointing toward the door, her eyes. bloodshot.
They were her biological parents, so she accepted their words.
But her husband was innocent. He shouldn’t be dragged into this mess, hearing such dirty accusations.
At that moment, Lucas‘ phone rang.
Suppressing his anger, he said, “Juliette, let me tell you something, no matter what, you’re still the daughter of the Monroe family, and you can’t escape us! Also, I’ll be waiting for the day you regret this and kneel down begging us!”
With that, Lucas gave Sylvia a signal, and they both left the hospital room.
After all, Juliette’s issues couldn’t be more important than company matters.
As they walked away, Juliette let out a heavy sigh, sweat already forming on her forehead.
“What a show. Go rest now,” Max said coldly.
He had thought she was just someone he randomly married off the street, but who knew she’d be such a big trouble.
Juliette bit her lip, she could hear the disdain in Max’s words.

She didn’t blame him. With a family like hers, it was no wonder they were the joke of the town.
She glanced at the needle marks on the back of her hand, where blood was already starting to seep out.
In a panic, she wiped it away with her sleeve and said, “I’m not staying in the hospital. It costs too much, and honestly, I’m fine. Let’s just go home.”
She spoke carefully, sneaking glances at Max.
What she didn’t realize was that every move she made was being watched by the man.
“Left eardrum perforation, a fracture on your left wrist, and over a dozen healing scars on your body. And you’re telling me you’re fine?”
Juliette bit her lower lip, looking at Max in panic. “Do you hate me? Do you want to abandon me?”
The word “abandon” had already repeated itself too many times in her twenty–something
years.
Abandoned by family, abandoned by lovers–she had nothing left.

Max gave her a sideways glance. She was truly pitiful.
The reason he chose her as his wife was partly because he didn’t want to accept his grandpa’s arrangements, and partly because she gave him a sense of familiarity. He didn’t feel repulsed by her.
“It’s like taking care of a cat or a dog,” Max said. For the first time in his twenty–eight years, he felt a pang of sympathy and, strangely, agreed to keep this troublesome person by his side.
Hearing those words, Juliette felt a ray of light shine down on her, finally touching the wild grass that was about to wither.
“Thank you! Thank you so much!” Juliette said repeatedly.
“Stop with that. I only married you to deal with the family. This marriage won’t last long, so don’t fall in love with me! Got it?” he warned coldly.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be very obedient!”
Her heart had already died in that heavy rain three years ago. There would never be a chance. for revival.
