Women were indeed difficult creatures to deal with. Max looked at the tightly shut door and felt a little uneasy. He had no idea what this woman was thinking. Seeing her so proactively asking about another man’s identity, it was only natural for him to suspect she had ulterior
motives.
Why was she so fierce? And he never said he
that she had been in prison. If he really. minded, why would he agree to marry her in the first place? Everything else might be fake, but their marriage certificate was real. Their marriage was legally recognized and protected by the
state!
Seeing that Juliette still hadn’t come out of the room, he wondered if she was crying inside. Forget it. Thinking carefully about the whole situation, he had indeed gone too far with his words.
Max walked to her door and knocked. There was no response.
Juliette. I’m coming in,” Max said, pushing the door open.
The sight that met his eyes was of the woman standing bare–skinned. Juliette had her back to him, changing her clothes. Her back was covered in countless scars, and her delicate shoulder blades stood out, as if they were always ready to spread their wings and fly. He had never seen. a woman with so many wounds on her body before. Just looking at them was shocking. This wasn’t just serving a prison sentence… This was torture.
Juliette finished dressing and turned around, locking eyes with him.
“When did you come in?!” she cried out, hurriedly wrapping her arms around herself, panic written all over her face.
“I knocked. You didn’t respond, so I was worried something had happened to you and came in
to check
1… I have bad hearing. Next time, knock louder,” Juliette said softly.
Every time she mentioned her hearing problem, she was always careful. She felt self–conscious about it. Who would have thought that the once high–and–mighty, radiant eldest daughter of the Monroe family had now become a cripple?
Alright Max agreed.
Tm going to work. Juliette said, glancing at the time. After all the drama this morning, it was already close to ten.

“Mm.” Max stood at the door, and as Juliette walked past him, he grabbed her hand.
“Do you need something else?” she asked, her voice cold again.

She was like a snail. Whenever she sensed danger, she would retreat into her shell. But the truth was, her shell wasn’t sturdy at all.
After staying in her room for a while, Juliette also realized she had overreacted earlier. They had only known each other for two days. She had been in prison, and even her own parents disliked her; what right did she have to expect Max to believe her?
“Sorry, I was too harsh earlier.”
Juliette looked at him in disbelief, as if she hadn’t expected him to apologize.
“What? You didn’t hear me again?” Max raised his voice. “I said I was wrong, okay?! I don’t know what happened three years ago, but I don’t think it was your fault.”
“Why are you willing to believe me?” Juliette found it almost surreal. In three whole years, he was the first person willing to believe her.
After all, Gavin had been her childhood sweetheart for over 20 years, yet when she was at her lowest, he was the one who personally called the police and pushed her into the pit without hesitation!
“Because a truly bad person would never let themselves end up in such a miserable state. So you… you’re just a fool who doesn’t know how to protect yourself.”
“What nonsense are you saying? I’m going to work. If I delay any longer, I’ll be late!” Before her tears could fall, Juliette ran out in a hurry. She was afraid that if they kept talking, she would start crying.
How ridiculous. She had once laid her heart bare for Gavin, and he hadn’t even spared it a glance before throwing it into the mud and stomping on it. Yet, in just two days, Max had seen through everything at a single glance. Thinking about it, her taste in men three years ago had truly been terrible.
That evening, at the Monroe Residence, Vivienne and Gavin had returned from abroad, and Sylvia had ordered the servants to prepare a lavish dinner.
Halfway through the meal, Lucas brought up work matters. “Gavin, you have connections. Do you know the CEO of Sphere Corporation?”
However, Gavin kept his head down, staring at his food without responding. The others looked over and realized he was zoning out Vivienne clenched her fists tightly. Is he thinking about that

tretched woman Juliette again?
“Gavin?” Lucas called him again.
“Hmm? What is it?” Gavin snapped out of his daze.

Before dinner, he had ordered someone to investigate Juliette’s recent activities and found out that on the very day of her release, she had married another man. Was she really that desperate for a man? She couldn’t even last a day without one?
Back then, she had pretended to be so innocent. In the three years they had been together, the most intimate thing they had done was hug. But now, she had thrown away all pretenses and immediately married some random guy.
And what pissed him off even more was that Juliette had gotten a job as a saleswoman in an adult store! The men who went there were all the perverted type. She really had no shame, had she?
Lucas repeated his question about Sphere Corporation.
“Mm. I’ll take care of it. No matter how powerful Sphere Corporation is, they’re new to Newton. They’ll have to give Sinclair Group some respect,” Gavin said absentmindedly.
“See? I told you, nothing is too difficult for Gavin!” Sylvia beamed. “Now that you two are back, just look at how perfect you are together! There’s an old saying. First establish a family, then a career. You’re not young anymore. You should finalize the wedding soon. Once you have kids, we can be at ease. And don’t worry about raising them, just leave that to me! You two can still travel the world as you like.”
“Mom! We know what we’re doing,” Vivienne said shyly, sneaking a glance at Gavin. In her heart, she had been waiting for him to propose to her for a long time.
I’m a bit tired. Maybe it’s the jet lag. I’ll head out first,” Gavin said with a cold expression, grabbing his jacket and standing up from the table.
“Huh? Leaving so soon?” Sylvia frowned. They hadn’t even settled anything yet. If this dragged on any longer. Vivienne would miss the prime years of her life as a woman.
“Wait, I’ll see you out! Vivienne quickly followed after Gavin.
Outside, she wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, breathing in the light scent of his cologne. Clearing her throat, she said, “Gavin, I’m sorry, My mom is just like that. Please don’t take it to heart. No matter how long it takes. I’ll wait for you to open your heart and accept me. My sister didn’t know how to cherish you, but I do.”

After he drove away, Vivienne’s face darkened. She knew it! Juliette was still stirring up trouble. the moment she got out of prison. Sometimes, she really wished that woman would just die and never get in her way again!
She pulled out her phone and made a call. “Have you found out who the man was that broke into Juliette’s room three years ago? No? Keep looking!”
Three years ago, Vivienne had drugged Juliette with hallucinogens and arranged for two homeles
men to be sent into her room. But when her people arrived, they found the door locked from the inside, and sounds of indecent activity coming from within.
She had wanted to barge in and catch Juliette in the act, but the man had escaped through the bathroom window before she could.
To this day, his identity remained a mystery. Who knew what he looked like? Maybe he was old and ugly, so he had to flee through the window in embarrassment.
If she could find out who he was and let Gavin see it with his own eyes, he would never have any lingering feelings for Juliette again!
