Their gazes met. Juliette had imagined what the president of Sphere Corporation might look like–old or young, tall or short. But she had never connected Max with the president of Sphere Corporation.
“Hello, Mr. President! I’m Cassie from the Newton Evening News Magazine! I’ve always admired you. In just a few short years, you’ve expanded Sphere Corporation and brought it to a successful IPO. It’s been my dream to interview you! Can I take up a few minutes of your time?” Cassie took out her press credentials and asked excitedly.
Girls, who would’ve thought! Everyone assumed the president of Sphere Corporation would be an old man, but he turns out to be this handsome! He is way more attractive than any male celebrity I have interviewed before. The best part is, he isn’t even wearing makeup, and yet his skin looks better. His whole vibe is just so hot!
“What are you doing here?” Juliette asked.
As expected, that question finally came. Max opened his mouth, ready to explain but Juliette. continued on her own, “I get it! You’re one of the bodyguards here? Everyone else is out on patrol, and here you are slacking off?”
“You two know each other? He’s not the president of Sphere Corporation?” Cassie looked back and forth between the two.
“Yeah, this is the husband I told you about.” Juliette whispered.
If he were really the president of Sphere Corporation, he could have any woman he wanted. Why on earth would he marry her?
“So, I see. Do you know where the president of Sphere Corporation is?”
Max raised his brows and played along, accepting the bodyguard label. “He felt a bit tired and already left.”
“What the… The party downstairs just started and he’s already tired? Don’t tell me he’s somet weak old geezer?” Cassie asked, disappointed.
As they were chatting, a knock came at the door. Cassie immediately fell silent.
Til go distract the bodyguards. You two should head back down.” With that, Max stepped
outside.
No one knew what he said to the people outside, but they didn’t come barging in. By the time.

Juliette and Cassie sneaked back downstairs, the ball was nearing its end. The mysterious president of Sphere Corporation never showed up.
After saying goodbye to Cassie, Juliette waited in the parking lot for Max so they could head home together. But suddenly, a hand grabbed her arm and pulled her into the shadows. In the dim moonlight, she recognized the man’s face.
“Gavin, what are you doing? Let go of me!” Juliette struggled, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t break free from his grasp.
Gavin applied more force, pinning Juliette against the white wall in the garden behind the building. Her jet–black hair, striking features, under the moonlight looked even more breathtaking. The black evening gown made her look like an enchantress. Her captivating eyes glared at Gavin, yet instead of being annoying, it only made him want her more.
“Where did you go just now?”
“What does that have to do with you? Why should I tell you?” Juliette asked. Who does he think he is, some kind of police?
“I searched all over and couldn’t find you. You went to the second floor, didn’t you? You went to see Caleb? What’s your relationship with Caleb? When did you meet him? Is he just another one of your flings?”
A series of questions left Juliette speechless.
“Gavin, are you done? If anyone should be asking these questions, it’d be my husband. Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Caleb isn’t just anyone. You’re no match for him. I’ve looked into him! He grew up poor, used all sorts of schemes and tricks just to climb his way up to being the president’s assistant. He’s sharp as hell!*
Juliette looked at him. What she hated most was this exact version of Gavin. If he really cared, why hadn’t he stepped in when Celine bullied her earlier? Why did he always show up afterward, acting all high and mighty like some father figure?
“I’m warning you, let go of me or I’m going to scream!” Juliette struggled again, but her wrist remained tightly gripped by him.
“Bastard, let me go!”
“What if I say I won’t?‘ Gavin sounded possessed.
He had this feeling that if he let her go this time, there might be no connection left between

them. From the shadows, Max approached. The light fell on him, and his expression turned unreadable.
With a cold look, he grabbed Gavin’s wrist. “Didn’t you hear her? She told you to let go.”
“And who the hell are you to say that to me? What qualifies you to stand on the same level as me?” Gavin looked at him coldly. Some nobody driving a beat–up car dared to act tough? He didn’t even bother to fight someone like that; he could crush him with just a finger.
“Let go.” Max repeated, his presence domineering.
Juliette watched as the two men silently but intensely clashed. She couldn’t tell how much strength Max used, but Gavin’s forehead veins popped out. Well, he was clearly in pain.
Juliette, this is the man you chose? He’s a total loser who only knows brute force. Does he even know what kind of place you work at? He can’t give you a good life!”
Gavin was about to go on when Vivienne’s voice rang out from outside. “Gavin, are you in there? When can we go home? My head really hurts. I think I caught a cold from standing outside for too long.”
Gavin gave Juliette a long look. Seeing that she still refused to apologize, he finally let her go.
Juliette, I don’t know how things between us ended up like this. Vivienne can’t handle the cold. I have to find her. But all of this is your fault. If it weren’t for that drug three years ago, her body wouldn’t be this weak. If you had any conscience, you wouldn’t be flirting around, making us all worry about you.” With that, Gavin walked off.
The first time she was misunderstood, she tried her best to explain. But now? Not worth it
anymore.
“Sorry about that, Juliette said apologetically after Gavin left.
“I knew you’d be a handful the day I married you.” Max turned and headed toward the parking lot. He didn’t want to get involved in their mess.
But he couldn’t help thinking about how she’d worried for him and come out to find him last night. He didn’t like owing favors, so this time, he’d consider it payback.
In the Volkswagen, Max quietly drove while Juliette stared at the scenery outside the window. “Why did you go to that banquet tonight? Max asked casually, eyes fixed on the road. Cassie’s a reporter. She wanted to interview the president of Sphere Corporation but didn’t dare go alone, so she asked me to come.

After such a long day, Juliette was tired. After answering his question, she leaned against the seat and began to doze off.
“Just now, Gavin said you work at some kind of place. What kind of place is it?” Max asked, but
got no response.
He turned to look but found that she was already asleep. Never mind, I’ll ask next time.
When they arrived at the apartment, Juliette was still fast asleep. Her hair had fallen over her face, her skin fair and flawless. At a banquet swarming with high–society ladies, she had worn a brandless dress with barely any design, yet still managed to outshine everyone.
Max’s Adam’s apple bobbed. On a whim, he reached out to brush her hair aside.
“Mmm…” Juliette slowly opened her eyes and caught him red–handed just as his hand was about to touch her.
“What are you trying to do?”
