“You said you’d agree to any condition, no matter what it was!”
Kaiden didn’t hesitate for a second. Right now, if Elizabeth asked him for the stars, he’d find a way to reach up and grab them.
Elizabeth locked eyes with him, her words slow and deliberate. “Starting today, you can’t see Natasha ever again. No matter what happens to her- whether she’s sick, hurt, or even dies—it has nothing to do with you. Can you do that?”
“No more seeing Tasha?” he thought, stunned.
He opened his mouth, trying to explain, “Eliza, Tasha… she’s still your sister, and her health isn’t great. I…”
“You can’t do it?” Elizabeth’s tone was icy, almost mocking.
“Then there’s nothing left to discuss.” She moved to close the door.
“No, I can do it!” Kaiden snapped back to attention. “I swear on my life, from this moment on, I won’t see Natasha again. If I break this promise, may God strike me down!”
For the next few days, he seemed determined to keep his word. His devotion to Elizabeth bordered on the obsessive.
He was attentive to her every need; anything Elizabeth glanced at would appear before her the next day.
He even canceled all unnecessary social events, showing up at the Stenson’s residence like clockwork, talking to Elizabeth through her

closed door.
The maids whispered among themselves, saying Elizabeth had finally weathered the storm and stepped into the sunshine. Kaiden was truly repentant this time, ready to cherish her above all else.
Even Viktor’s stern expression softened after seeing Kaiden’s sincerity.
Only Elizabeth remained unmoved, her heart clear and barren.
She watched as gifts arrived, mixed in with brands Natasha liked, her face betraying nothing. All these so–called tokens of affection were probably just the things Natasha had rejected.
And even those cast–offs, Natasha would never give up easily.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Kaiden burst through her door,
seething with anger.
“Elizabeth.” He stormed over, his looming figure casting a heavy shadow, the air in the room almost suffocating.
“How could you be so cruel?”
Elizabeth closed her book and looked up at him.
“Still pretending?” Kaiden was shaking with rage, his finger trembling as he pointed at her.
“Tasha lost her baby! The doctors said she nearly died.”
Elizabeth didn’t so much as raise an eyebrow. “So?”
Her indifference pushed Kaiden over the edge. “You drugged her! That’s why she suffered so much and lost the baby!

“Elizabeth, I never thought you could be so vicious. That was a life! Do you even have a heart?”
“So, Mr. Renard, how do you plan to punish this ‘vicious woman“?” Elizabeth’s eyes were full of scorn.
In the past, Kaiden had always defended her. Now he was here to accuse her.

“Get down on your knees and apologize to Tasha–beg for her forgiveness at her bedside.
“I want you to publicly admit you were jealous and malicious, and that’s why Tasha lost her baby.”
“I also want you…” His eyes were dark with fury. “To atone for that unborn child. After we marry, you’ll pray every day for that child’s soul!”
She stared at this man–so familiar, yet suddenly a stranger. Her heart felt like it was being gripped by an invisible hand, twisted until she could barely breathe!
Instinctively, $he clutched at her chest, her knuckles white with the effort.
“Why… does it still hurt so much?” she wondered.
She’d already died once. She’d been hurt so many times before. So why, when he looked at her with such hatred for Natasha’s child, did her heart feel like it was being torn apart all over again?
“Elizabeth, what do you have to say for yourself?!”
Elizabeth opened her mouth, but couldn’t even muster the cold sarcasm she’d used before.
“You…” Her voice was hoarse, barely a whisper. “You really believe her?”

Chapter 3
Kaiden saw how pale she’d become and hesitated, but the image of Natasha lying in her hospital bed quickly overpowered any doubt.
“Of course, I believe her. Tasha is so pure and kind–she’d never lie to
me.”
He stopped abruptly, as if he finally realized how damning his words
were.
The bitter irony nearly made Elizabeth laugh.
So, to him, the woman who had come between them–Natasha–was the innocent angel, while she was the venomous villain.
“Great, just great…” Elizabeth let out a low, broken laugh, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Before she lost consciousness, all she saw was Kaiden’s face, shifting from rage to stunned disbelief.
He instinctively reached out, “Eliza!”
“Doctor! Someone call a doctor!”
He spun around, carefully scooping her into his arms and shouting for help to the maid outside the door.
