Chapter 17
“She can’t stand to see you freezing.” Javion tossed the umbrella to him, sneering coldly.
“If you want to pursue someone, do it openly. What skill is there in playing the victim?”
Kaiden’s ears turned bright red, but he stubbornly lifted his chin. “I’m not pretending to be pitiful! I really want to wait for her!”
Javion stared at him for a few seconds, then suddenly turned around. “Come on.”
When Elizabeth heard the knock and opened the door, this was the scene she saw:
Javion was standing at the door, holding a snow–covered Kaiden, while the boy clutched a cup of milk–long since cold–as if it were a treasure.
“He’s too noisy.” Javion’s face was expressionless. “You deal with him.”
With that, he let go and turned to leave, giving them the space.
Kaiden stood awkwardly at the door, while Elizabeth’s eyes suddenly turned red.
“Why…” Her voice trembled. “Why does it have to be now?”
Why did he have to come back in the cruelest way just when she had finally learned to let go?
Kaiden panicked, wanting to step forward but not daring to. In the end, he

only gently placed the milk on the table. “Don’t cry, I’ll leave right now……..”
As he turned to go, Elizabeth grabbed the corner of his coat.
“The car accident was real, saving someone was real.” Elizabeth couldn’t keep up the act with him any longer.
“But amnesia? Kaiden, you overdid it.”
His gaze grew darker, and finally, he suddenly let out a low laugh.
He couldn’t understand why, even though he acted so convincingly, Elizabeth still saw through him.
He had wanted to struggle, to keep pretending to be clueless, but when he turned and saw Elizabeth’s reddened eyes, he gave up.
“Yes, I didn’t lose my memory.” He tore off the bandage on his forehead, revealing the already healed wound beneath.
“But I’d rather be insane!”
He suddenly pinned her against the wall, his breath hot. “Do you know how I spent this past year?”
“I watched you and Javion together, watched you hang the paintings you drew with your own hands in his house!”
“I even…” His voice suddenly choked, “even dreamed of you in a wedding dress, standing by his side…”
Elizabeth interrupted coldly. “So you pretended to be your younger self, hoping I’d soften?”
“I just wanted you to see the Kaiden you once loved. To see the future we should have had.”

Chapter 17
Looking at the man before her, eyes full of pleading, Elizabeth suddenly found him both unfamiliar and ridiculous.
He acted so well–like the boy who stayed up late copying notes for her, like the Kaiden who carried her over ten kilometers of mountain roads, like the first love who once filled her heart with joy.
But fake is still fake; she shouldn’t and couldn’t let herself fall for it.
“Eliza!” Seeing her turn to leave, his voice trembled. “What if… what if I really regret it?”
She stopped by the door, but did not look back.
“Kaiden, do you know why a broken mirror is hard to mend? Because even if you piece it back together, the cracks will always remain.”
That day, Kaiden ultimately let her go, but in the end, he still couldn’t let go.
He stood on the top floor of the Stenson Group, the wind howling behind him, a camera in front.
“Elizabeth.” His eyes were full of obsession. “I’m giving you one last chance to choose.”
“Come back to me, or watch me jump.”
He knew she was watching, he knew she was soft–hearted.
He was betting that… she would turn back for him one last time.
