Chapter 2
Freya POV
I wandered the streets aimlessly for a long time, a confusing mix of elation and grief pulling at my heart.
The joy was simple: after five years of marriage, I was finally carrying Jasper’s pup.
The grief was crueler: that same pup was about to lose his father–the man bound to him by blood.
I unlocked the front door and was me
the sound of Jasper’s booming laughter. I rarely heard him laugh so freely.
Following the sound, I called out softly, “Ja what’s got you in such a good mood?,”
The words froze on my tongue.

Halle was sitting right beside him, her smile bright and knowing.
I didn’t know what they were talking about, but the look in his eyes–that tender, private smile–was something he only ever gave her.
My chest tightened, sharp and sudden, but I smoothed it over before the ache could show.
Jasper noticed me then. “Freya, we were just talking about you.”
He pressed a light kiss to my cheek.
“Halle’s going to stay with us for a while,” he added. “She’s pregnant, and it’s lonely for her to be at home by herself.
“Freya, you’re the best. A professional nutritionist, a wonderful cook. Better than any servant could ever be.
He looked at me, a silent request in his eyes. “I’ll need you to look after her.”
The scene overlapped with a memory from my last life.
Back then, I refused flat out
Jasper accused me of being cold and heartless, of turning my back on a pregnant woman in need.

But how could I accept another woman–one who so clearly coveted my husband–living under the same roof as us?

It had burned my eyes every time.
We’d fought. Halle ran out in tears, and Jasper had chased after her.
By the end of that night, Halle had been rushed to the hospital with signs of a miscarriage, and Jasper had blamed me for it

We’d stayed locked in a bitter silence for weeks until I finally bent, softening again and again, just to patch things up.
This time, I chose differently. Let her move in. I was done fighting.
I looked at Halle’s triumphant little smile with complete calm
“No problem,” I said evenly. “I’ll have the butler prepare the guest room”
Her brows arched in surprise, eyes darting between Jasper and me.
“You mean it?”
My wolf stirred uneasily inside me. “You really don’t care?”

I soothed it gently. “The mate–bond takes three days to dissolve. Leaving early would only mess up the process. We just have
to be patient for two more days.”
In the mirror, the mark on my collarbone was already a shade paler.
Jasper couldn’t feel it yet. He’d only get the signal the very moment the bond finally snapped.
Dinner arrived. The moment Halle sat down, she frowned at the food on the table.
Jasper leaned toward her. “The maids cooked tonight. Doesn’t taste right?”
He turned to me. “Maybe you should make her something else.”
I was on my feet before I could think. “Of course. What would you like?”
Halle asked for an oat milkshake.
I got to work.
Halle hovered nearby, chattering idly as I measured and blended.
“Freya, no sugar.”
“Okay.”

“Add a little of this,” she said, handing me a small bottle.
I nodded, smoothly poured the milkshake into a glass, and sprinkled a layer of the chia seeds from the bottle she’d given me.
Halle took a delicate spoonful.
“Mmm, it looks and tastes wonderful.”
But despite her praise, she didn’t take another bite.
Minutes later, Halle suddenly clutched her throat, gasping for air.
“1. I think I’m having an allergic reaction… I can’t breathe…”
“Halle Jasper shot to his feet, panic in his eyes. “What’s happening?“.
I snapped at the maid to fetch the medicine.
Halle’s face flushed red, her voice coming in broken gasps.
“I’m allergic to chia seeds I didn’t realize they were in the shake-”
She gasped, clutching her chest.
“Don’t blame Freya.. it’s not her fault… I should’ve been more careful.
But Jasper’s gaze had already swung to me, sharp and accusing, as though I’d committed some unspeakable sin.
I tried to explain, my voice barely a whisper.
“I had no idea she was allergic. She handed me the battle herself…”
Halle’s voice was barely a whisper now
“Jasper I can’t I think I’m dying-
Jasper’s face went white
