Lily froze in terror as a car barreled straight toward her.
Victor and Benjamin both lunged forward in alarm, desperate to pull Lily
away.
“Lily, move!”
Benjamin reached her first, yanking her aside.
But the speeding car clipped them both.
Shielding Lily in his arms, Benjamin tumbled sideways with her.
Lily’s head struck a flowerbed edge while Benjamin took the impact on his leg, his arm scraping raw during the fall.
Ignoring his own pain, Benjamin frantically checked Lily.
Seeing blood oozing from her head as she lay unconscious, he shouted at bystanders, “Call an ambulance!”
Victor rushed over to check on Lily, but Benjamin shoved him away with his last strength.
Benjamin roared at Victor, “Go see what Sophie’s done!”
In that critical moment, Benjamin had recognized Sophie behind the wheel.
Victor turned toward the car, finally spotting Sophie in the driver’s seat.
Sophie’s vehicle had rammed into Benjamin and Lily before crashing into another flowerbed.

Airbags deployed as engine smoke billowed out.
Victor dragged Sophie from the wreckage.

Dazed from her head injury, Sophie barely registered being hauled out.
Victor showed no mercy, shoving her to the pavement.
“How dare you do this!”
“If Lily’s seriously hurt, you’ll pay!”
Wailing sirens pierced the air as ambulances converged.
Lily regained consciousness in a ward.
Staring blankly at the ceiling, she struggled to sit up after a dazed
moment.
A nurse rushed to restrain her.
Clutching the nurse’s sleeve, Lily pleaded, “Where’s Benjamin?
Is he alright?”
Her voice trembled with tears.
The nurse soothed her, “The gentleman admitted with you is in the next
ward.”
“How is he?
Badly hurt?”
Lily’s eyes welled up with panic.
“Just a fractured leg and superficial wounds. No danger.”

The answer failed to calm Lily–she needed to see Benjamin herself.
As she argued with the nurse, the door swung open.
Benjamin entered in a wheelchair, pushed by another nurse.

Seeing him safe, Lily threw her arms around him, sobbing, “Thank god you’re okay.”
Benjamin stroked her hair, his tone gentle, “The doctor says you have a concussion. You need bed rest–no excitement.”
He persuaded Lily back to bed before wheeling himself to her side.
“Lily!”
The ward door swung open again, Victor walked in carrying Chinese herbal supplements, worry etched across his face.
Benjamin and Lily both frowned upon seeing him.
“Get out!”
Lily pointed at Victor and snapped.
Victor set down what he was holding and tried to explain to Lily,
“I had no idea about Sophie’s situation, I—”
Before he could finish, Lily grabbed the items he’d placed by the bed and threw them at him.
Victor stood his ground without dodging, letting Lily keep throwing.
“Lily, if this helps you forgive me, have at it.”
Lily let out a cold laugh. “Victor, do you really think playing the victim in

front of me will earn my forgiveness?
Do you think a few half–hearted apologies could ever make up for seven years‘ worth of humiliation?”
