After the banquet, Jackson shot me a message.
“Maddie, what happened between Victoria and me was just a big misunderstanding. The one I really like is you.
“As long as you’re willing to come back to me, I won’t hold anything against you.
“Marriages can be ended, and even if you’re pregnant, you can still get an abortion.”
I burst out laughing. “What makes you think I’d ever divorce the heir of the Talbott family for you?
“Besides, if anyone should be holding something against someone here, it should be me holding something against you, right?”
Jackson’s expression went dark after iny comeback. “Who do you think Nicholas Talbott is! Do you really believe he likes you?
“Don’t let yourself get played and end up helping him line his pockets.”
Seeing those messages flood in one after another really got on my nerves.
I grabbed my phone and shot back a voice message. “Honestly, I don’t care who you like, but I’m done with you.
“Also, just stop bothering me and messing with my life. If you keep it up, I’ll post our messages online.

After sending that message, he didn’t reply at all.
I couldn’t figure out why he suddenly started caring about what was going on in my life.
He had clearly said before that he liked Victoria more.
Maybe it was because he noticed I found someone better than him.
Or maybe it was just the usual jealousy of wanting something that was out of reach.

Noticing that I looked a bit down, Nicholas said he’d take me to a car race tomorrow.
Feeling a little better despite my low mood, I asked, “Didn’t you say you didn’t want me watching those dangerous races?”
“Well, there’s no way around it. Your happiness is what matters most,” he replied.
When we got home, I was trying to figure out what to wear for the race when Nicholas pulled me into his room and started showing me videos of himself racing in the past.
I was totally shocked watching him on screen zooming by like a bullet.
Even though I’ve known him for years, I had no idea he could ride a motorcycle.
And wow, he was really good at it. His skills were just as impressive as those of professional racers.

When I looked up from the screen, I caught him staring right at me.
I jumped into his arms, all excited. “Why didn’t you tell me you can ride a motorcycle!”
He turned away, looking a bit hurt. “You never asked me.
“Plus, if I had told you, how would I know if you’re into me or racers?”
His jealousy was practically suffocating.
Before we got together, I had been upfront about my three past relationships.
So he knew all about Matthew.
I was trying to figure out how to calm him down when his hands started slipping under my clothes.
Even when I used the baby as an excuse, he wouldn’t back off.
“The doctor said the little one is strong. I’ll be gentle,” he said.

The next day, when we were supposed to go watch the race, I overslept.
By the time we got to the venue, most of the staff had already left.
Looking at the guy slowly walking behind me, I really suspected he did this on purpose.
I playfully threw a couple of punches at him, but he didn’t seem angry at all. Instead, he said he’d take me out for a nice meal.
We went in, ordered our food, and only then did I notice that the person at the next table looked like Matthew.

Without thinking much about it, I sent Nicholas off to grab me a latte and planned to move to another seat where Matthew wouldn’t spot me.
But as soon as I stood up, Matthew called out, “Madeline! Long time no see.”
