Chapter 9
Thinking back on all those past events, I felt pretty uneasy for a long time.
Even though Nicholas was the richest man in New York, he really couldn’t hold a candle to Richard.
I have seen Richard take someone out before.
If I didn’t show up, he might actually go after Nicholas.
Just that thought made me catch my breath.
No matter how scared I was, I had to bear the consequences of my own
actions.
Plus, his obsession was with me–what he really liked wasn’t me at all.
With that in mind, I suddenly felt a lot lighter.
If I said goodbye properly, maybe he’d let me walk away.
I changed my clothes and got to the spot he told me about right on time.
It had been a year since we last saw each other, and he looked even
colder.
The cold, keep–your–distance vibe he gave off sent chills down my spine.
I stood at the door, hesitating to walk over. With a blank look on his face, he reached out his hand and said, “Come here.”
I shuffled my feet, took a deep breath, and walked toward him.
He pulled me into his arms and nibbled at my neck while murmuring

under his breath, “Why are you pregnant with someone else’s kid?”
I turned my head away and didn’t say anything, but my body was resisting.
In a voice as soft as a whisper, I tried to reason with him. “Richard, we don’t belong in the same world. Please let me go.”

But he completely ignored what I said. The coldness in his eyes just got sharper. “You still haven’t answered me. Why did you have a baby with someone else?”
Afraid he might snap and hurt me, I begged through my tears. “You don’t even like me! Why can’t you just let me go?”
Richard was really mad and told me to break up with Nicholas.
I didn’t say anything. He actually called a doctor and tried to force an abortion on me.

I fought back and refused, but it was totally pointless. In a moment of desperation, I slammed my head against a pillar–blood gushed from my forehead.
He was shocked by what I did. The doctor who had been called in to do the abortion was now rushing to bandage my forehead instead.
After all that chaos, he locked me back in the room again.
No matter how much I tried to explain or begged him, he wouldn’t let me
- go.
If things got any worse, I thought maybe dying would be better than this.
Completely hopeless, I collapsed on the floor, regretting ever stepping
into his villa.

If I had never met him, I thought my life wouldn’t have turned into such a
mess.
Just when I thought I was completely lost in despair, someone suddenly broke through the door.
“If you don’t want to die, let her go.”
It was Nicholas’s voice.
I seized the chance while the guard wasn’t paying attention and bolted out.
The man in front of me stood alone, squaring off against Richard.
I couldn’t hold back my emotions anymore. I cried and begged him to get out of there fast.
After all, Richard was a total maniac–someone like us just couldn’t take him on.
But before I could finish my plea, Nicholas and Richard were already locked in a fight with each other.
Pregnant and drained, it never even crossed my mind to step in.
When Richard pulled out a gun, I broke down. “Please leave! He’ll kill you!”
As soon as those words left my lips, Richard lunged at me, pointed the gun right at me, and demanded, “Choose–him or me?”
