Barely a week later, I ran into Amber outside the office.
She was dressed head–to–toe in high–end luxury brands, a genuine, five–figure bag on her arm, looking radiant as she “happened” to pass by the entrance.
“Well, look who it is! Hello there!” Venom dripped from her tongue. “Mia Kim. I thought you were such a big shot, with your rich best friend to protect you. Still slaving away at this dead–end job?”
Jessica, who was with me, stared at her in awe. “Amber! You look incredible! What are you doing now?”
For a split second, Amber’s face darkened. After being fired, she hadn’t been able to find a job half as easy. Every company had rejected her after seeing her work history. She’d been forced to take a job as a hotel
waitress.
But that was all in the past.
A confident, dazzling smile returned to her face. “Oh, I’m not working anymore. My boyfriend is taking care of me,” she announced. “And he’s the real deal–a true tycoon. He said he’s going to take me to meet his parents soon to discuss our wedding.”
She shot me a smug, sidelong glance.
I debated whether I should warn her about Damian. Outsiders didn’t know the truth, but in our circle, the stor- ies were common knowledge. This wasn’t just about money; it was dangerous. But Amber had already made her choices, and she’d already paid a price for her actions against me.
Jessica looked worried. “Amber, this new boyfriend… he’s not like that Mr. Evans, is he…?”
Gita frowned. “No wealthy family introduces a new girlfriend that quickly. Even normal families aren’t that impulsive.”
Amber’s face contorted with rage, and she lunged forward. “What’s that supposed to mean, Gita? You just can’t stand to see me happy, can you? You think I’ll never marry rich! You’re just like her, a jealous bitch!”
She puffed out her chest. “When I marry into his family, I’ll be a real trophy wife! Not like Mia, sponging off her friend. And once I’m in, neither of you will get away with how you treated me! We’ll see if your precious best friend can protect you then!”
Gita dodged her easily. “You psycho,” she muttered, grabbing my arm to pull me away.

Any thought I had of warning Amber evaporated. I turned and left with Gita. Amber was the type who had to hit rock bottom to learn a lesson. Stubborn and stupid. Telling her the truth would only get me dragged into
her mess.
Jessica glanced between us, said a hasty goodbye to Amber, and hurried to catch up.
Behind us, Amber let out a triumphant laugh, convinced she had won. She turned and strutted away, the
victor of a battle no one else was fighting.
