Felix Xavier’s smile froze on his face. After a moment, he heavily put down the teacup, his voice carrying profound meaning.
“She hid from me and gave birth to that child, which was originally not an existence
recognized by me,” he said coldly. “Even if it carries my bloodline, it is useless to try to coerce me through this pup.”
Hearing these words, I was stunned for a moment. I forced a smile, trying to maintain my
composure.
“These words are a bit hurtful, after all, I watched you grow up.”
Felix Xavier wiped the corner of his mouth with a handkerchief and sneered. “Who knows.”
He restrained his expression and got up from his chair. “I still have pack business to attend to, so I won’t accompany Aunt Hazel for dinner.”
After Felix Xavier left, the smile on my face gradually disappeared. The private dining chamber felt suddenly cold and empty.
My phone rang, breaking the silence. I answered with a sharp “Yes?”
“Mrs. Green, I’m sorry,” the caller’s voice was tense. “I can’t help you anymore. The Northern Territory Pack Enforcement Division has started strict investigations. I don’t want to jeopardize my own position within the pack hierarchy.”
I frowned but didn’t push. There was no point in burning bridges completely.
“I understand,” I replied curtly. “I’ll find another way to assist Sophia Rivers.”

The next day, after I finished my surgery, they transferred me to a private room. The anesthesia was wearing off slowly, leaving me in a hazy state between consciousness and sleep.
I faintly heard a conversation outside the door. Hazel Green’s voice was explaining something to a plainclothes enforcement officer.
“Ten minutes of observation time,” the officer said gruffly. “That’s all I can allow.”

As she stepped into the ward, I slowly opened my eyes. The fluorescent lights above made everything seem harsh and clinical.
Hazel Green sat on the accompanying chair. After the plainclothes officer closed the door, she spoke in a low voice.
“I’m sorry, I’ve been busy with pack affairs these past few days,” she said. “My assistant was handling communications. She didn’t know it was you so she didn’t tell me.”
I knew these were all excuses. But I didn’t expose them. My eyes remained cold, seeming to have already lost my desire for freedom.
“Then what are you doing here?” I asked flatly.
Hazel Green lowered her voice even further. “Are you willing to plead guilty after recovering from your injuries?”
I coldly snorted. “I no longer expect you to save me. As for our alliance, it ended from that day on.”
A trace of surprise flashed across Hazel Green’s face. But it was only for a moment. Her expression returned to normal.
She touched the moonstone bracelet on her wrist and said earnestly, “The Sophia Rivers I know isn’t someone who gives up so easily. You’re just resenting me for not helping you that day.”
I remained silent. What was there to say? She had abandoned me when I needed her most. Hazel Green looked at me and sighed softly. “I wanted to help you, but the pack enforcement suddenly started a strict investigation. My contact couldn’t do anything.”
She paused, her eyes calculating. “But if you’re willing to plead guilty, then I have nothing to say. I remember you have a son.”
My body tensed at the mention of Oliver.
“If you go to the territorial prison, your son will be affected by your disgrace in the future,” she continued. “Not to mention whether the Blackwood family will still be willing to take Oliver Rivers in. His future within the pack hierarchy will also be bleak.”
Mentioning Oliver Rivers, I subconsciously clenched the hospital blanket. I didn’t love this child. I had always regarded him as a tool for my own advancement within the pack.
