Zion leaned back, utterly unfazed. “Mrs. Fullbuster, relax. Mr. Fullbuster’s strength and skill are freakishly strong–your idiot ex doesn’t stand a chance.”
Anneliese cast him a quick glance. Zacharias might be unbearably foolish, but hearing Zion voice it so bluntly made her cheeks burn, as if he were mocking her judgment.
Zion caught her expression and only grinned, shameless and smug. He knew he was right. “Good thing you’ve finally developed better taste in men.”
Bang!
Jonathan marched straight up to Zacharias and drove his fist into the side of his face with bone–cracking force.
Zacharias staggered backward, head reeling, and crashed to the pavement.
For a moment, the world went dark. When his sight cleared, Jonathan’s shadow loomed over him like a predator closing in.
Without hesitation, Jonathan hauled him up by the collar, dragged him a few steps, and hurled him into a car.
Bang!
The impact rattled metal. Zacharias gagged on the coppery taste of blood, spitting crimson onto the ground.
Before he could breathe, Jonathan’s massive hand clamped around his throat, pinning him to the hood.
Zacharias thrashed, but Jonathan’s grip was iron. His face flushed scarlet, veins bulging across his temple as air slipped away.
Through bloodshot eyes, he glared up at Jonathan’s murderous expression–yet a twisted grin spread across his lips.
“Jonathan, you’re terrified! You’re the real liar here–lying to her, hiding the truth! You don’t even dare show her who you are. You-”
His words choked off as Jonathan’s grip tightened, strangling the last of his breath. His body

convulsed, legs kicking frantically.

Jonathan’s killing intent was palpable. Zacharias felt it–he’d struck Jonathan’s nerve.
So, Jonathan really hadn’t told Anneliese anything.

“Shut up. Taking down Clauderias Tech would be child’s play for me.” His tone was cold and lethal, dripping with menace.
Then, just as suddenly, he released Zacharias. Zacharias collapsed to his knees, hacking and gasping, face mottled red.
Jonathan didn’t spare him a glance–he simply turned and walked away.
Still coughing, Zacharias dragged himself upright, one hand braced against the dented car.
“Anne hates me now, but only because she once loved me so deeply… cough. And you? You’re just some intruder who slithered in when things fell apart. A thief.
“You think you’ve won just because you ruined our marriage, stole her from me, and now wear the title of her husband?”
He wheezed, spitting more blood, but his eyes glimmered with malice.
“She’s only with you to get back at me–perhaps even a little touched by your actions–but don’t fool yourself, she doesn’t love you. And once she finds out what you’ve been hiding, she’ll never love you. She could end up with anyone, but not you.”
A hoarse laugh tore from his throat. “Jonathan, your so–called happy marriage is nothing but a farce. You’re pathetic, flaunting it in front of me. I’ll be waiting for the day she leaves you and comes back to me.”
He was certain that day would come.
Jonathan stopped mid–step. His tall silhouette turned, sharp and imposing against the shadows. His face remained unreadable, but his glacial stare slammed into Zacharias like a sledgehammer.
“Marriage begins with kindness, and from that, love grows. Support, trust, gratitude–that’s what real love is built on. Whether she loves me or not isn’t yours to decide. But you…”
That was Jonathan’s perspective on marriage, but confronted with Zacharias‘ mocking eyes, Jonathan’s lips curved into a humorless smile. He felt like he was talking to a brick wall, completely wasting his breath.

A low, scornful laugh escaped him as he turned his back once more. The sound cut deeper than any punch, piercing Zacharias‘ pride.
Zacharias trembled, leaning heavily on the car before collapsing completely, drained and broken.
He understood perfectly what Jonathan meant.
He had squandered Anneliese’s love, driven her away. Yet, he refused to accept it.
He thought to himself, She may love Jonathan now, but I was her first love. If she loved me before, she will love me again.
He would never let go, because the moment he did, they would truly become strangers for life. He couldn’t accept it!
Jonathan’s talk about kindness before love was just proof–proof that Anneliese didn’t truly love him.
Zacharias smirked bitterly. He was still the only man Anne had ever loved.
Back in the car, Anneliese hurried to Jonathan’s side, her trembling hand reaching for his face. “Are you alright? Did he hurt you?”
Her pale, stricken expression met Jonathan’s silence as he gazed at her.
