As Perseus spoke, he tugged on Melanie’s sleeve.

Melanie had wanted to scold Christopher and tell him not to make things hard for Anneliese.
After all, Anneliese had completely pulled away from her during this time, and as a mother, Melanie still felt torn and miserable. What she wanted most was to fix their relationship.
But since both her sons had the same attitude, Melanie hesitated.
With Anneliese speaking gently today and even taking the initiative to invite her out, it gave Melanie some confidence.
She straightened her back a little, folded her hands in front of her, and said, “Anne, listen to your brothers. As long as you respectfully serve this cup of coffee, the estate will still be your home, and we’ll still be your family. Of course, after all this trouble, you should calm down and be more sensible. From now on, you need to get along well with Selina, okay?”
Anneliese looked at the three of them, so full of superiority and self–righteousness, and thought she hadn’t done anything to make them misunderstand her.
Or was it that she used to put them in their place too often, and now that she eased up a little, they thought they could walk all over her?
Just as she was left speechless, a sharp sound came from the hallway.
“What’s going on?” Melanie frowned and looked toward the door.
Outside, chaos had already broken out. Smoke was seeping in through the crack of the door.
Perseus quickly walked over and pulled the door open.
The hallway was filled with thick smoke, the fire alarm was blaring, and people were rushing out of every private room, shouting as they ran.
“Fire! Get out now!”
Perseus turned back and shouted, and Christopher immediately took off running. Melanie jumped up in a panic, but she knocked over a chair by accident. When she tried to run forward, she tripped and fell hard to the ground.
Anneliese knew exactly what was happening. She also knew the place wasn’t really on fire— Jessica had just set off some smoke bombs to confuse people. She got up slowly. When she saw

Melanie fall, she didn’t help her. Instead, she stood at the doorway and shouted at the sight of the White brothers running away.
“Oh no, Mrs. White fell! Everyone look, Mr. Perseus and Mr. Christopher only care about saving themselves and not their own mother!”
Perseus and Christopher had already run out of the room, but when they heard Anneliese shouting, they realized something was wrong. They didn’t want to be accused of abandoning their mother in a crisis and being branded unfilial.
Perseus turned and glared at Christopher. “How could you leave Mom behind and run off?”
Christopher looked embarrassed. “Weren’t you doing the same thing?”
“I thought you’d help her!” Perseus snapped, and the two of them hurried back into the room.
Anneliese watched them return, then glanced toward the end of the hallway where the private rooms were still quiet. She frowned slightly and walked over to Melanie.
Melanie had been in the hospital for many days and had just been discharged yesterday. Her body was still weak, and now, after being scared and falling down, her legs gave out, and her vision went dark. She couldn’t get up for a while.
Anneliese bent down and helped her up, saying, “You really raised two good sons.”
Melanie’s face turned pale. She knew Anneliese said that on purpose to stir things up. But what Anneliese said was also true. She hadn’t expected that at such a critical moment, neither of her sons could be relied on.
“Mom, don’t listen to her! We’ll get you out!”
By then, Perseus and Christopher had rushed back and each grabbed one of Melanie’s arms to help her up. Anneliese quickly walked back to the door. The rooms at the end of the hallway were still quiet, and she was thinking about how to stall for more time.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw two people, clothes disheveled, rushing out from the end of the hallway. Anneliese’s eyes curved in amusement.
Well, isn’t this just perfect?
“What are you standing in the doorway for? Move!”
The White brothers held Melanie and reached the door, only to see Anneliese blocking the way. Perseus frowned and tried to push her aside.

Anneliese staggered from the push and fell forward, grabbing onto the coat draped over a woman who was running past.
“Ah! What’s wrong with you?”
The woman screamed, but she couldn’t stop her coat from being pulled off, leaving her exposed. She was only wearing a thong, her bare skin showing everywhere else.
She screamed again, covering her chest with her arms and hiding behind the man next to her.
Panicked, she shouted, “Timothy, help me!”
The half–dressed man quickly pulled her into his arms and bent down to pick up the coat on the ground.
But before he could, Anneliese firmly stepped on the coat with both feet. Timothy tugged at it a couple of times but couldn’t get it back.
Furious, he was about to curse Anneliese when suddenly he heard screams behind him.
