The police immediately stepped forward and dragged Mikita along. Terrified, she grabbed Anneliese’s sleeve with a desperate tug.
“Ms. Claude, I truly repent! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! Please, spare me!”
“Let go!” Jonathan’s voice was sharp, his brows furrowed.
With a ripping sound, half of Anneliese’s silk shirt sleeve was torn off by Mikita’s grasp. revealing a slender, flawless arm.
Mikita froze for a moment, staring at Anneliese’s arm in shock. “How?”
“Behave,” Anneliese said coldly.
At that moment, two young officers pressed Mikita to the ground. Seeing she was no longer resisting, they turned to Anneliese apologetically.
“We’re sorry for startling you, Mrs. Fullbuster.”
Jonathan had already removed his suit jacket and draped it over Anneliese’s shoulders, pulling her close into his embrace.
“It’s alright. Thank you for your hard work,” she murmured.
Mikita was then escorted out. Seeing this, Billy burst into tears and clutched at her legs.
A police officer picked him up and handed him to the nanny, but she hadn’t expected both the master and mistress of the house to be taken away in one day.
Not wanting to be burdened with Billy, she simply dropped the sobbing child on the ground and fled.
Anneliese frowned as she looked at the little boy with his flushed, tear–streaked face. Years ago, Mikita abandoned someone else’s child without a second thought. Now her own child is left unwanted, uncared for. Maybe this is retribution.
“Anne, my daughter, I’m so sorry! I didn’t realize the truth was so terrible. I never imagined Selina was that wretch’s daughter, that she deliberately replaced my real daughter and put herself in my place!
I regret it so much it’s killing me. If I had known, I would have cherished you, protected you. I was deceived, manipulated–don’t you see? I’m a victim too! They were the ones who were

shameless and cruel! Anne, please give me another chance. Let me make it up to you, I beg you.”
Suddenly, Melanie stumbled forward, tears streaming down her face, full of remorse, begging Anneliese for forgiveness.
Seeing this, Perseus and Christopher also moved to step forward, but Anneliese drew back into Jonathan’s arms, clearly impatient.
Jonathan’s large hand on her waist gently rubbed her, his gaze lowering as he spoke softly.
“Tired? Let’s go home.”
Anneliese nodded, uninterested in responding to Melanie.
Seeing her turn to leave, Melanie panicked, wanting to cling and plead further. Jessica stepped in, her expression full of scorn.
“Save it. Where were you before? When you kept protecting Selina, favoring her so much that you drove Annie away! And now that you know Selina is an illegitimate child, you regret it? Do you think your regret is something precious, huh? Stop making people sick. By the way, do you think Selina even knows about her background after all these years?”
Now they wanted to repent and make amends?
The damage was done. It was too late.
Melanie’s face turned pale, and her body wavered under the weight of Jessica’s words.
Christopher and Perseus steadied her, their faces ashen, gray–white, and drained of color, all three sharing the same stunned silence.
The final words from Jessica cut the deepest.
They realized that Selina had probably long known that Mikita was her birth mother, and might even have interacted with her under Timothy’s guidance.
To their faces, she would smile sweetly and call them Mom and Brother. But behind their backs, she would even address Mikita as her mom, and laugh at the three of them as nothing but pitiful fools.
Suddenly, Melanie spat a mouthful of blood, her eyes closing as she collapsed.
“Mom!”

Perseus shouted, catching her, his eyes red–rimmed with fury as he stared at Anneliese’s retreating back.
Yet Anneliese did not even glance back.
Christopher also watched her go, his gaze heavy with tumultuous emotions.
He had always been the one who looked down on her the most, the one who shielded Selina at every turn.
In his eyes, Anneliese was a country girl spoiled by a poor upbringing–ignorant, greedy, dismissive toward her own family, and too narrow–minded to tolerate others. To him, she had only come back to seize the White family’s resources, nothing more than an ungrateful child.
But now, as Mrs. Fullbuster, Anneliese held nothing for the White family. She had severed all ties.
As for Selina, the sister he had always seen as innocent and pitiable, proud yet endearing- even if she was forever causing trouble and embarrassing the family–turned out to be an illegitimate child, a complete source of disgrace.
To Christopher, it felt as if his entire world had been overturned in less than an hour.
The more he thought back on his past actions, the harder it became to breathe. He was nearly sick with regret, almost ready to cry at his own stupidity.
