He told Selina what had happened at the restaurant, his expression remaining cold and unreadable.
Selina’s vision went dark when she heard that Mikita and Timothy had been arrested for abandonment and kidnapping.
Right now, they were being questioned.
Her first instinct was to blame Anneliese.
When did Anneliese find out she was Mikita’s daughter?
She had secretly investigated her identity and even orchestrated today’s events!
She hated that vicious, despicable person!
Lowering her head to hide her fury, Selina smiled bitterly to herself.
“I know my biological mother made a mistake, but she was only eighteen or nineteen back then. She gave birth to me with nowhere to turn, acting impulsively…
“Still, she is my mother. I have my father with me as well. The rest are angry and can’t be bothered about him. Zacharias, could you get me a reliable lawyer?”
Selina pleaded earnestly.
She quietly squeezed Billy’s hand, nudging him toward Zacharias.
“Billy, why don’t you ask him to help us save Mom and Dad?”
The little boy burst into tears.
But when he realized Zacharias could help them, he threw himself at his legs, sobbing uncontrollably.
“I want my mother, Zacharias! You have to help us!”
Zacharias frowned at the little boy.
That morning, he remembered how he’d promised Selina to be responsible for her.
Now that they were together, it was only natural for the boy to call him that way.

Yet for some reason, it filled him with uncase and resentment.
If he had known Selina’s background, would he still have agreed to be with her?
“I want my Mom, Zacharias!”
Billy’s wailing yanked Zacharias back to reality.
Looking down, he saw his suit pants soaked with the boy’s tears and snot.
He didn’t feel pity or affection–only intense irritation.
At that moment, a nurse came in, frowning in displeasure.

“This is a hospital! Can’t you handle your kid? He’s disturbing the other patients! Don’t you care that he’s making a fuss?”
“He isn’t-”
Zacharias instinctively wanted to explain that the child wasn’t his.
Meanwhile, Selina stepped forward and picked Billy up, addressing the nurse firmly.
“The baby’s just feeling uncomfortable. We’ll soothe him.”
Once the nurse left, Zacharias looked at Selina, his irritation growing.
He said in a low voice, “It’s true your mother switched the children. She’s the reason Anne had to suffer since childhood, and she almost froze to death in the snow. Even the best lawyer won’t be able to help!
“Anyway, I need to pick my mother and Lenora up, so I’ll be going now.”
He turned and walked away.
Selina hadn’t expected him to refuse so outright.
She had only given herself to him last night, but now, he didn’t even want to help her with such a simple matter.
Wasn’t she the love of his life?
Watching Zacharias‘ indifferent back, a chill ran through Selina.
She closed her eyes briefly, then hurried after him with Billy in tow.

“I’m sorry, Zacharias. I’ve thought about it, and it’s true that my mother should face the consequences for committing such a crime.
“I can only persuade her to confess and take responsibility.
“When she’s out, I’ll try to atone for her and sincerely ask for Anne’s forgiveness. I let my emotions get the better of me earlier.”
Tears welled in her eyes, and her face was full of shame.
Seeing her pale, delicate face, Zacharias softened slightly.
She wasn’t placing blame on him.
Instead, she was remarkably reasonable.
She wasn’t blaming him, and she was so reasonable.
Helping her own mother atone was only natural, after all.
He raised a hand and wiped the tears from her eyes. “You should head back and get some rest.”
Selina shook her head.
“If you’re going to the police station, take me with you. They’re my parents, and I have to see them.”
Zacharias nodded.
Soon, they picked Melody and Lenora up after they were released on bail.
The mother and daughter no longer had any of their usual haughty, ostentatious airs.
Thin and pale, with foul–smelling bodies and dark circles under their eyes, they looked like two restless spirits released in broad daylight.
Selina rushed forward, her eyes red.
“It must’ve been tough for both of you.”
“Selina, you’re the best. You’re even here with Zacharias to pick us up!”
Lenora cried while clinging to Selina.
Melody nodded repeatedly, noticing how thoughtful and kind Selina was–unlike Anneliese,

who would torment them over trivial matters.
“Mom, Lenora, let’s get into the car first. Selina’s not here for
you guys.”
