Zacharias felt like Nishay wasn’t settling scores but putting him, his mom, and his sister on trial.
By the end, he was so ashamed his fingers shook as he held his phone, and he couldn’t lift his head.
“Anne, anything else?”
Nishay couldn’t remember, so she looked at Anneliese.
Zacharias let out a small breath of relief, but then he heard Anneliese say, “I’ve got two things to add.”
She had paid for Melody’s surgery, and she never planned to let Selina keep taking the credit.
Zacharias stared at Anneliese in surprise. “Anne, what debts are left between us?”
He had already transferred the 500 million she asked for in the divorce.
Even the villa at Sunrise Residence, he gave her for free.
But she let Jonathan tear it down, and now they were already building a community center there.
When he was with Anneliese, he had never limited her spending. She bought luxury goods and jewelry like the other rich wives.
He didn’t remember any debt left unsettled.
Anneliese glanced at him, then pulled two old hospital receipts from her bag and tossed them onto Zacharias.
“See for yourself.”
The receipts floated down and landed at his feet.
Before he could bend down to pick them up, Lenora, who was still kneeling, snatched them first.
She wanted to see what was so important about these receipts that Anneliese dared to act so high and mighty.

When she saw the dates and the patient’s name, Lenora froze. “Anneliese, you’re ridiculous. You think stealing this from Selina proves you saved my mom? That’s not going to work.”
Anneliese lowered her eyes and looked at her with disdain. “Idiot.”
“You! Ann-”
Lenora’s mouth twisted with anger, ready to curse back, but Zacharias grabbed the receipts from her and shot her a sharp warning glare.
Lenora bit her lip and went quiet, though her face showed clear resentment.
Beside her, Melody also looked resentful, her eyes full of sarcasm.
She thought the receipts were stolen too, since Selina had already admitted it.
Back then, Selina said she was the one who anonymously paid the surgery and hospital fees.
Even Nishay’s medical bills had been covered because Selina asked her parents for help.
How could Anneliese have had the money to pay for her, an outsider?
Zacharias looked carefully at the two receipts. There was no payer’s name on them.
He frowned and asked Anneliese, “Anne, are you saying you were the one who paid for my mom’s surgery and hospital stay?”
Before Anneliese could answer, Zacharias spoke again.
“That’s impossible. I saw Selina at the hospital that day. I followed her outside and saw her get in a car. I couldn’t catch up. When I got back to the ward, the nurse said the bill had already been paid.
“Later, when I saw Selina at the White estate for the first time, I asked her about it. She told me herself. She said she had heard one of the students she sponsored was in trouble. When she found out it was me, she wanted to help. She didn’t want me to miss the most important exam of my life because of this, so she went to the hospital to pay the bill.
“Anne, I told you before that I mistook gratitude for love because she saved my mom.
“Do you think I don’t know Selina was the one who paid? Is that why you’re trying to use these receipts to claim the credit? Anne, you don’t need to do this. I already understand my feelings
now!”
The more he talked, the more worked up he got, looking helpless but emotional.

He didn’t want to believe Anneliese, and he couldn’t bring himself to.

Back then, when Melody was sick, he was in his senior year of high school. It felt like he was carrying two mountains on his back.
That was why he felt so grateful to Selina and why his feelings for her grew. But if it hadn’t been Selina at all, if she had lied to him, then what was everything he lost–his wife, his family -for?
Anneliese listened to his speech and let out a cold laugh.
She nodded. “Tsk, even now you still choose to believe Selina. No wonder she fooled you so easily. You sure you’ve figured out your feelings? I don’t think so. Just admit you’re her lapdog already and stop pretending.”
