Anneliese’s grandma had spoken so highly of him. She even mentioned once that if Anneliese weren’t married, she would have wanted him as her grandson–in–law.
Now, it seemed like she really wanted to set him up with Anneliese.
If someone found out about this, his life would really be in danger.
“Grandma! Dr. Chevalier is very busy! You should get some rest instead of keeping him here with all your questions.”
As sweat formed on Carter’s forehead, Anneliese stepped in to cut Nishay off.
Only then did Nishay say, “Then, help me walk Dr. Chevalier out.”
Anneliese and Carter left the hospital room together. Once they left the room, she flashed an embarrassed, apologetic smile at him. “Don’t take Grandma’s words to heart.”
Carter shoved his hands into his pockets. “So, when are you planning to tell your grandma that you’re married to Jonathan?”
“I’m really afraid Grandma can’t handle the fact that I divorced and remarried so quickly.” She genuinely had no idea how to explain everything to Nishay.
She couldn’t possibly tell Nishay that her relationship with Jonathan was only a contract marriage. If she did, Nishay would probably get worked up all over again.
Carter nodded. “It’s definitely not wise to put your grandma through any more stress. But it’s clear she supports you being in a new relationship. You could actually introduce Jonathan to her first.”
With someone as good–looking as Jonathan, Nishay would definitely be happy to try to pair up Jonathan and Anneliese.
Otherwise, if she truly wanted to pair him with Anneliese, he would have to start worrying about his own safety.
Anneliese’s eyes lit up at his suggestion, and she nodded with a smile. “Thanks for the idea, Dr. Chevalier.”

Anneliese turned around and saw from the window that Nishay had already fallen asleep, so she walked to the end of the hallway to call Jonathan.
Jonathan was in his office listening to two department heads give their reports. When he saw his phone light up, he asked them to wrap things up and dismissed them early.
He answered the call, grabbed his mug, and walked over to the dispenser. “How’s your grandma doing?”
“She’s doing pretty well. Dr. Chevalier said she’s recovering fine, and she’s asleep right now.”
Hearing the cheerful tone in Anneliese’s voice, Jonathan’s lips curved up just a little. But remembering how she said she wasn’t jealous earlier, his smile faded again, and he fell silent.
With him saying nothing, Anneliese felt the pressure even through the phone. It made her uneasy, so she licked her lips before speaking again.
“Grandma will probably wake up in another two or three hours. If you’re not too busy today, could you come by and see her? I… I’d like to introduce you to my grandma.”
After she finished, there was still no response from Jonathan’s end.
Maybe the signal at the hospital is bad. She was about to check her phone when she suddenly heard Zion’s startled shout.
“Mr. Fullbuster, watch out!”
Anneliese gasped. “Jonathan! What happened?”
In his office, Jonathan saw that Zion had just snatched his glass, which was overflowing with hot water. He glanced at his own soaked shirt sleeve, his eyes turning cold as he answered, “It’s nothing. I almost bumped into something.”
“Huh? Did I interrupt you? Watch where you’re going, okay?”
Anneliese’s anxious, regretful voice came through.
Jonathan sat back at his desk, his eyes showing a flicker of hesitation before he finally said, “Anne, I’m a little busy today…”
Anneliese replied, “That’s okay. We’ll talk another day. I won’t keep you from work.”

After the call ended, Jonathan set his phone down, frowning slightly.
“Mr. Fullbuster, is your hand okay? I’ll go get some burn ointment.”
Zion hurried over to check Jonathan’s left hand. He’d seen Jonathan at the water dispenser, and hot water had spilled over his hand. However, Jonathan seemed lost in thought and didn’t even notice.
Jonathan simply waved him off. “No need. Just get some gifts ready and visit my wife’s grandma on my behalf later.”
“Okay.” Zion nodded, then added, “Actually, your afternoon schedule could be rearranged. There’s still time for you to go to the hospital.”
Jonathan, however, had already picked up his pen and gone back to work. His voice was deep as he ordered, “Do as I said.”
“All right.”
Zion nodded and left, but he couldn’t help glancing back at Jonathan as he closed the door.
Mr. Fullbuster really seems off today. Even with something as simple as getting water, he was so absent- minded that he spilled it. That’s not like him at all.
Plus, he used to prioritize Mrs. Fullbuster’s issues. Now he’s not even going to visit her grandma himself? That’s just strange.
