“That’s all in the past now. I’m Nick’s wife, and of course the person I love is my husband. Please watch your words!”

But Lewis seemed to have lost his mind as he reached out and pulled me into his arms. “Nick is naturally infertile, a useless man who can’t perform his marital duties. You won’t be happy with him!”
“Elma, I love you. I’ll take you away from here right now!”
Hearing him humiliate Nick like this, I was furious. I immediately broke free from his grip and slapped him hard across the face.
“Lewis, I won’t allow you to slander my husband like this!”
“I’m stating a fact that everyone in the capital knows! Who doesn’t know that Nick is naturally infertile and has caused the deaths of three wives in succession!”
I slapped him again with my other hand. “If you dare insult my husband again, don’t blame me for not being polite!”
Lewis was about to say something more when Nick approached with his entourage. “Honey, sorry to keep you waiting.”
Seeing Nick, I felt relieved and hurried over to take his hand. “Mr. Herty had too much to drink and was missing his sister, so

I chatted with him for a bit longer. That’s why I was delayed.”
Nick gently smoothed my disheveled hair, his voice tender. “It’s alright.”
He turned to look at Lewis, then said to the bodyguard beside him, “Since Mr. Herty is drunk, escort him home. Make sure he gets there safely.”
The bodyguards immediately stepped forward to support Lewis. I noticed they weren’t heading in the direction of the Herty house, but that wasn’t my concern. Lewis had done wrong, and whatever punishment he received was deserved.
That evening, after Nick and I finished dinner, we returned to our room as usual. A warm palm caressed my waist. Though I had my doubts, I still cooperated shyly.
Until my hand touched something hard, and I said in surprise, “You… you…”
Nick smiled as he pulled me into his arms. “Are you satisfied, honey?”
Before I could finish speaking, he silenced me with a kiss.
The next day, Nick told me that the infertility rumor was something he had deliberately spread. Back then, he had no interest in romance and was focused solely on starting his business abroad. To avoid his parents pressuring him to marry,

he claimed to be infertile.
Leaning against his chest, I asked, “Was the rumor about causing your wives‘ deaths also something you deliberately spread?”

Nick shook his head. “That was unintentional. My previous wives were all forced on me by my parents to test whether I was truly infertile. Of course, I never touched them.”
“At the same time, I didn’t want them trapped in the Samson family for life until they died of old age, so I sent them abroad to further their education.”
So that’s how it was. I looked up at him. “Then why are you telling me the truth today? Aren’t you afraid I’ll reveal the secret that you’re not actually infertile?”
Nick lowered his head and gently kissed my forehead. “You’re my wife. I think having a child with you wouldn’t be bad.”
“Honey, let’s have a child.”
I said shyly, “I’ll listen to whatever you say.‘

He tapped my nose, his voice low and husky. “Call me Nick.”
“Nick.”
Later, I followed Nick to settle abroad.

During our third Christmas overseas, my father passed away due to the depression that had long weighed on his heart. Nick brought my mother from the capital to live with us, allowing her to enjoy her golden years in peace.
From my mother, I learned that Lewis had broken his arms and legs in a drunken fall and was bedridden for three whole months before he could get up. His limbs never regained their former agility, and he became much more melancholy as a person.
As for Janice, unable to bear the hardships of convent life, she tried to escape in the middle of the night but fell down the mountain and died instantly.
Looking at my sleeping twins, listening to my mother once again mention those people and events from the capital, it all felt like a lifetime ago. My heart was filled only with reflection.
