She wiped at the corner of her eyes as if she were fighting back tears, but saw through it, it was an act. “I’ve told you not to do those things, but you wouldn’t listen. Look at you now…” Her words were barely audible, dripping with a resignation that stung
Miela staggered back, the weight of her mother’s words staring into her chest. Her eyes shifted, searching for something in Puvan, something that
would hold her up.

Miela clenched her jaw, stifling the scream that tried to escape. I could see the look in her eyes–she knew this was a lie. She’d heard these empty promise’s before, and now they were nothing more than words with no weight.
It was ironic, really. She had promised the same thing to Prisca, knowing all too well what it felt like to be abandoned by the people who were supposed
to protect you.
Her family was done with her,
Everything she had ever held dear–her wealth, her title, her future was slipping through her fingers, all because of me.
And if today was her downfall, she would make sure I went down with her

Cael’s face went white with fury. He was about to say something when Jory beat him to it.

The room fell into a thick silence, and all eyes turned to me. I could feel the weight of every gaze. The rumors–everyon had heard them.
