Chapter 26

When Howard accepted the call, he had received spectacular news that exceeded his expectations. He placed his phone down before turning around and picking Megan up off her feet, spinning her around in circles right in front of the bathroom counter.
His sudden action had nearly made Megan jump out of her skin. When he set her feet back on the ground, her eyes had grown to the size of saucers, reminiscent of a deer caught in the headlights, looking incredibly adorable.
Howard had chuckled lightly before leaning down to kiss her.
The water had continued flowing from the tap in an endless stream.
Howard raised his head and looked at his reflection in the mirror. His face was covered in water droplets, and the tips of his hair were dripping with water. His bloodshot eyes made him look beyond exhausted. He was the only one standing in front of the bathroom counter.
He frowned before twisting the tap close. He then grabbed a clean towel from the cabinet and dried his face and hair. Throwing the used towel into the laundry basket, he walked over to the wardrobe and
picked out the garments he would wear for the day.
He grabbed a shirt, a pair of pants, and a blazer, but he froze when he wanted to grab a tie, only to realize
that he didn’t have any spare ones in this apartment. When Megan was still around, she would never miss
out on any of these things.
Howard pressed his lips together tightly. He couldn’t help but recall the way she had looked at him after
she rolled down the stairs last night. Her eyes had glimmered with hurt and disbelief.
The doorbell rang. He opened the door to reveal Alyssa standing behind it. The smile that stretched
across her lips was sweet but weak when she saw him. “Good morning, Howard. I brought some fresh
flowers for you. Here!”
She presented a bouquet that she had just put together to him. The flowers were in full bloom,
permeating the air with their floral scent. Coupled together with Alyssa’s smiling face, it enhanced her fragile beauty, making one feel protective over her.
However, another scene flashed through Howard’s mind–Shaun standing in the wind in the early morning
as he spoke to him.
“If you like Alyssa, then you should just be with her. You shouldn’t concern yourself with what’s going on with Megan. The only thing you can do now, Howard, is to let her go.”
Howard pursed his lips. He loathed the way Shaun had looked down upon him as if he thought himself to be better than Howard. Was this Megan’s way of forcing him to concede to her? By throwing a tantrum, acting, and now getting close to Shaun to anger him? He hated the feeling of not being in control.
“What’s wrong, Howard? Do you not like this bouquet?” Alyssa asked softly.

Snapping back to his senses, Howard reached out and accepted the bouquet. If Megan insisted on forcing him, he was going to let her know that he wasn’t someone that she could easily coerce into bending to her whims.
“No. I like it a lot,” he said to Alyssa.
Alyssa only had six months left. He was responsible for her getting sick, so he also had to take up the responsibility of taking care of her. D
“That’s great!” Alyssa exclaimed, smiling.
The paparazzi tailed them and snapped dozens of photos when they left the apartment together. It didn’t take long before an article with an explosive headline appeared on the trending topics chart.
“Howard Larson and Alyssa Hardin were seen leaving the same apartment together. Not only that, but the meticulous Mr. Larson was spotted without his tie. Did he just forget it? Or were they up to something
else?”
Several photos were included in the article, including one where Alyssa was heading up to the apartment while cradling a bouquet, and one of them leaving the building together.
The netizens were immediately intrigued. They discussed it among themselves as usual, though the one thing that was different this time around was how Megan made an official statement regarding the article.

Megan made her announcement in the afternoon with the account that she hadn’t used in quite some time. The announcement was short and simple.
“There has been a lot of speculation regarding the relationship between Howard, Alyssa, and me, so I just want to clarify that I am currently still married to Howard. I’m making this statement in hopes that this farce will come to an end. As for anything else, all will become clear in the future.”
As expected, she received a barrage of negative comments the moment her post was uploaded to her
account.
“Ending the farce? All will become clear in the future? You should just leave of your own accord.”
“That’s right! Alyssa’s dying. Can’t you be a little more kind and just get a divorce?”
“You’re so despicable. What’s the point of posting this? Are you trying to shift the blame on Alyssa by declaring that you’re the official wife? Why are you blaming her when you’re the one who isn’t charming enough to keep your own husband in check?”
“Don’t think we don’t know what you’re trying to do by emphasizing that you’re still married to Howard.”
“I hate backstabbers the most. Alyssa openly said that she liked Howard.”
“You’re right. Besides, Alyssa and Howard didn’t do anything. She only dropped by his place so they could
go to work together. According to the photos and timeline provided by the reporters, she only went up for
a little while. They couldn’t have done anything unless Howard only takes seconds…”
“There’s no way that Mr. Larson only takes seconds!”
Nasty messages continued to flood the comments section of the announcement. Jimmy was wearing a
troubled expression as he looked at Megan, saying, “You gave them a platform to gang up on you.”
Megan put down her phone and said calmly, “Even if they don’t comment on my post, they’ll just
comment on other videos. There’s no difference.”
Jimmy frowned. “I don’t understand. Your announcement is neither here nor there. You didn’t even include a lawyer’s letter. Why did you post it?”
Megan lifted her eyes and looked at Jimmy. “That’s the result that I’m aiming for. It’s nothing but an
announcement. It has no other purpose except to leave a trace of what’s been happening.”
Jimmy still didn’t understand, but he trusted that Megan knew what she was doing. Besides, the announcement wouldn’t affect his company since they had signed “Quinn” and “Elena” and had no relation to Megan.
Megan placed her phone down and dedicated all her attention to the song she would be performing on
