Chapter 36
It almost seemed that Megan and Howard didn’t react to making eye contact with each other, but Howard was actually frowning slightly.
His heart was pounding in his chest, but he wasn’t sure if it was because of the intense song he had just listened to, or if there was some other reason. The one thing he did know was that the woman on stage. was mysterious and dangerously captivating.
The studio erupted in thunderous applause that was mixed with joyous cheers.
Howard averted his gaze before turning around.
“Thank you,” the woman said, her voice calm and clear.
Howard glanced at Jimmy, who had rushed over with an excited expression. He couldn’t believe that Jimmy looked so elated when his own woman had been injured so severely, to the point that she looked like she was going to drop dead at any moment.
However, how Jimmy treated his woman was of no concern to Howard. He didn’t need to worry about another man’s woman. Howard lowered his eyes. He didn’t hesitate when he left the studio.
Meanwhile, Megan bowed deeply to the audience before she followed the staff members‘ orders and left the stage. Below the stage, Jessie was jumping around in excitement.
“Your performance was amazing, Elena! I was totally immersed!” she exclaimed as she grabbed Megan’s hand and continued hopping around.
Megan gritted her teeth in pain, but she still fixed a smile on her face and thanked her. She had only rested for three days. It was far from enough for her to make a full recovery. She would always lean on something when she was moving around, and she wouldn’t move at all if she could help it.
However, she still had a great time while she was on stage. It was just that her body had been pushed to
its limits.
“Who is your SFX makeup artist, Elena? They did such a great job drawing these bruises on you. They look
so real!”
Jessie had no idea what had happened as she continued to stare at the bruises littering Megan’s body.
“Be careful. Those are real bruises,” Jimmy explained as he rushed over and pulled Jessie away from
Megan.
“Huh?”
Shocked by Jimmy’s sudden declaration, Jessie hastily loosened her hold on Megan. She had smudged away some of the foundation from the spot she was holding. Without the makeup covering it, it became immediately obvious how hideous the bruises actually were.

“Oh my God.” Jessie covered her mouth with her hands, her eyes shining with regret and worry. “I’m sorry, Elena. I didn’t mean to hurt you!”
Megan smiled and shook her head. There was no way she would blame Jessie when she had no idea what had happened. Seeing how regretful Jessie looked, Megan leaned her weight against her lightly,
“Can you help me back to the waiting room?”
She truly felt like she was on her last legs.
“Of course!” Jessie exclaimed, leaping into action.
However, they had only taken a couple steps forward when they saw Alyssa standing a short distance away. Alyssa smiled at Megan and said, “Congratulations, Elena. Your live performance was quite impressive.”
Megan simply stared at Alyssa without saying a word.
Alyssa continued smiling, saying, “Everything I told you about that person is true. You can look for me if you want to learn more details.”
The applause and cheers hadn’t died down yet, echoing in the background.
“I don’t think I’ll do that,” Megan answered with a smile.
She then shot a look at Jimmy, which left him in a state of bewilderment.
With Jessie supporting her, Megan and Jimmy took their leave, leaving Alyssa rooted to the spot. She was clenching her teeth so hard that they might shatter at any second. It seemed that her provocation had backfired. Instead of sabotaging her, she had unwittingly helped the masked woman perform better.
When Elena had still been performing, Alyssa had made a beeline to the live broadcast room. Using Howard’s name to pressure the staff members, she had forced them to lower the quality of the live broadcast when Elena was performing, among other things.
She was right to assume that Elena had no idea what was going on. Alyssa was supposed to be the star of today’s live broadcast, and yet Elena was trying to steal her thunder.
Alyssa’s eyes flashed as a plan began to form in her mind. She retrieved her phone and called someone.
