Ted’s face went pale in an instant. His mouth opened, but no words came out. Silently, he lifted his foot and kept walking forward.
Behind him, Ryan shoved his hands in his pockets and let out a mocking laugh.
He thought, You want to treat someone as a brother? Check first if they even see you as a friend. After so many years of friendship, would he really be unaware of your status in the Wilson family? Would he really not give you any resources?‘
Ryan thought only his foolish elder brother could believe that Frank had been hanging around him for so many years purely because of friendship.
Friendships that weren’t mutually beneficial wouldn’t last long. Even the best relationships would cool over time without shared interests tying them together.
Just like tonight, one look at Frank’s face earlier, and it was obvious he had just learned that Ted had used him. Of course he turned on him.
“Not bad. Looks convincing enough.” Briar stepped onto the deck with Ashton and gave a small approving nod at the opulent surroundings.
Ashton kept a firm hold on Briar’s hand, his other hand tucked into his pocket, which bulged as if stuffed with various items.
From the moment the four of them boarded, eyes in the yacht’s surveillance room were glued to them.
“Dad, look at Ashton’s hand…” Noah pointed to one of the screens as Henry entered.
Henry stepped closer, adjusting his reading glasses. “That brat. Could it be a gun in his pocket?”
Noah nodded. “That’s what I think too. Considering their awkward position in Shoneport right now, carrying a gun for protection isn’t unusual.”
Henry chuckled. “So the Wade family really has abandoned Ashton after all. Griffin used to say that the future of the family lay with that boy. Look at him now.”
Noah smiled as well. “Seems Griffin’s grip over the family isn’t what it used to be.”
“That’s exactly what we want,” Henry said, greed gleaming in his eyes. “Best if they turn on each other, fight until the sky turns dark. Then we can scoop up the resources they’ve been hoarding.”
Henry’s eyes were filled with greed and calculation. Once Ashton and Briar were on their yacht, they would be completely at their mercy.
But things wouldn’t go as they wished.
“Help! There’s a bomb…” Suddenly, the crowd on deck scattered in a frenzy, with constant screaming and shoving.

Noah’s smirk froze as he stared at the surveillance feed. “What’s going on? What is that in Ashton’s hand?”
“A bomb,” Henry rasped, his cane hand trembling. “Damn it, is he insane? He actually brought a pair of little bombs aboard? What does he plan to do?”
“Dad, do you think Ashton plans to take us all down with him?” Noah’s heart was in his throat as he watched Ashton juggle the two small bombs.
Henry’s expression was grim. He knew inviting Ashton and Briar was a trap. But they had never imagined Ashton could be this crazy.
He cursed inwardly, ‘He brings bombs instead of a gun for self–defense? Is he planning to blow up the entire yacht and feed everyone to the sharks?‘
Ted and Ryan, who had just come aboard, were also completely dumbfounded.
Frank was also nervous, mainly because Connor had never brought him along for such tense and exciting situations before.
He asked, “Connor, if Ashton accidentally drops that bomb, how many seconds do we have to escape?”
Connor glanced around at the panicking crowd, then met the terrified eyes of Ted and Ryan. “Maybe… three seconds.”
Worried Frank might not fully grasp how little that was, Connor patiently explained, “Of course, that depends. If someone has received special training, three seconds is enough time to dive into the sea and survive. Someone like me, for instance. Three seconds, and I’d already be swimming away.”
“And if they haven’t been trained?” Frank asked with mock innocence.
Connor said coldly, “For someone without special training, like these two in front of us, three seconds is only enough time to reach the railing.”
He added, “Of course, a burst of adrenaline might get them over the railing, but they’d have no chance of making a conscious jump into the sea. The blast wave would throw them and knock them unconscious…”
“How terrifying!” Frank patted his chest in mock fear, playing along.
Connor nodded. “Yes, it is terrifying. After crashing into the sea, they’d sink to the seabed like two dead dogs.”
Ted’s face went pale. He was clearly terrified by Connor’s explanation.
He looked at Frank, appearing weak, pitiful, and helpless.
Frank was speechless.
Frank looked away. ‘Don’t look at me like that. I am one of the people Connor was talking about. Every man for himself. If it comes to it, maybe we can at least drown holding hands. Maybe we can be ghost friends together.‘

He was likely more capable than ten mercenaries on the shore put together.
With Connor there, their men had no way to kill both Ashton and Briar simultaneously. All they could do was watch as Ashton continued to toss the small, gourd–shaped bomb in his hand.
The others on deck screamed and scrambled in chaos.
“Babe, are your hands getting sore?” Ashton was pleased with the panic they had caused, even finding the time to chat with Briar.
Briar nodded. “They’re fine. How about you? Are your hands sore? If you can’t catch it, don’t worry. I’m a great shot.”
Ashton replied, “Then I’ll toss it five more times. If I miss, babe, this day next year will mark the first anniversary of our deaths.”
