Chapter 8 She Is a Miracle Doctor
“Mom, don’t worry. From now on, I’ll hold this family up.”
Penny only shook her head and stepped out.

Stellan frowned impatiently. “What’s wrong with you, woman? Are you out of your mind? What exactly are you trying to do?” He couldn’t believe there was really a woman in this world who didn’t despise him.
“The one with the problem is you. I’m here to treat you.” As Evelyn spoke, she reached out to feel his pulse.
“You know medicine?”
“Of course. Otherwise, how would I save you?”
After checking his pulse, Evelyn pressed along his bones, running a preliminary examination. “Your legs and feet were once deliberately broken–shattered–and you never received proper treatment. Don’t worry, I’ll fix them for you.”
Stellan let out a mocking laugh. He had been paralyzed for three years. “You think you’re some kind of miracle doctor?” he sneered.
“Yes,” Evelyn answered simply, her voice calm because she was a miracle doctor–the sole heir of the miracle doctor’s lineage.
Regardless, Stellan didn’t take her seriously. He didn’t believe anyone could ever make him walk again.
“Tomorrow, I’ll find a way to get you scans, bloodwork, and a thorough checkup,” Evelyn said, glancing at him. She still didn’t understand what kind of bond tied her to this man, or why her mentor had insisted she save him.
Outside, Cosmo and Victor had just returned. The moment they heard Evelyn had brought home a man, the entire household buzzed with discussion.
“Mom, I heard in the village that Evie likes crippled men. If that’s what she likes, then let’s keep him. I’ll earn money to support him,” Cosmo declared.
Evelyn nearly choked. When did I ever say I liked crippled men? That’s just some nonsense rumor outside.
Victor chimed in, “Mom, Cosmo’s right. It’s no big deal feeding one more mouth, and he’s Evie’s fiance after all.”

“Yeah, and if need be, I’ll take on more delivery runs,” Charlotte added. “We may not have much, but as long as the family’s together and happy, that’s what matters.”
Hearing her children stand by Evelyn warmed Penny’s heart. “As long as you all agree,
I have no complaints. Evie is such a kindhearted child. Not like Alba, who only ever complained about us being poor, lashing out at us every day, never truly part of this family. Having a daughter like Evie makes me happy. A little extra work doesn’t matter.”
Inside the room, Evelyn overheard their conversation. Her heart warmed. This was the kind of love and acceptance she had never felt in the Cirrus family.
Mom, Dad, guys… don’t worry. I’ll hold this family up.
At the Iversons‘…
“Madam, bad news–someone from the outskirts just reported that Mr. Stellan was taken away!” a servant rushed in to report.
The woman had been sipping her afternoon tea. A massive diamond ring glittered on her finger, her every movement dripping with elegance and wealth.
“Did they say who it was?” she asked calmly.
“The young lady claimed to be Mr. Stellan’s fiancee.”
“The Gulliver family?” The woman considered for a moment, setting her cup down on the sandalwood table. “So, the Gullivers actually turned out to be loyal and dutiful. Very well. Since she’s his fiancee, let him live his life with her. It’s fine.
“Perhaps it’s better this way…” she murmured.
The next day, Evelyn returned to Crownpoint University for class. Linnea Breeze found her the moment she stepped in.
“Girl, where have you been these past few days? You vanished like you fell off the map.”
“Went through a tribulation.”
“What kind of nonsense is that? Ha!” Linnea clearly didn’t believe her.
“I’m not joking. My last name is now Gulliver–Evelyn Gulliver.”
With that, Evelyn told her about the switched daughters. Linnea was her closest friend–there

“Unbelievable. Something that dramatic actually happened to you? A switched–at–birth mess? But don’t worry. Whether you’re the real heiress or not, you’re still my girl! And if the Cirruses are that heartless to you, just tell me how you want to hit back. I’ll stand with you no matter what–it’s ride or die.”
Evelyn smiled faintly. “No need. I’ve already got a plan. The Cirruses are already starting to squirm.”
She was biding her time, ready to devour them bit by bit until they were swallowed whole.
“Well, well. Isn’t this the imposter heiress Evelyn Gulliver? Haven’t seen you in a while, and look at you now–fallen from the clouds straight into the gutter.” A mocking voice cut through the air.
Evelyn turned her head. Auster Sharpe–the fiance the Cirruses had arranged for her. But now, he belonged to Alba.
Back then, Auster had chased after her relentlessly, but Evelyn had refused him every time. And now here he was again.
“Linnea, let’s go,” Evelyn said flatly, too lazy to waste her time on trash like him.
“Stop right there, Gulliver. I have something to say to you!” Auster barked.
“Wipe the gunk out of your eyes first.”
“Gunk…” Instinctively, Auster rubbed his eyes. Linnea covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. By the time he realized, he had already been played by Evelyn.
“You dare mock me, Evelyn? You think you’re still the Cirrus heiress? Still think you can talk to me like you used to?”
“Get lost,” Evelyn warned coldly. Auster was like a buzzing fly–nothing but an irritation.
“You’re just an imposter. How dare you give me the attitude?! You think I don’t know that you’re now living with your family out in the countryside, raising pigs? Before, because you were a Cirrus and engaged to me, I tolerated your attitude. But not anymore. Don’t push your luck!”
Then, he leaned closer, his voice dripping with sleaze. “Still, if you’re willing to be with me, I won’t hold the past against you. I could keep you, make sure you live comfortably.”
She had seen shameless men before, but never anyone this brazen. Evelyn didn’t react. She only stared at him.
Auster frowned, uneasy. “Why are you staring at me like that?”

Evelyn’s voice was calm. “You have a nice neck.”

“What?” He froze, then puffed up with pride, touching his neck. “Really? Finally noticed how handsome I am?”
Evelyn shook her head. “A nice neck–shame it’s holding up a pig’s head.”
“What did you just say? Gulliver!” Auster gritted his teeth. He should’ve known she wouldn’t have anything good to say. No wonder she’d suddenly seemed to compliment him.
“She said you have a nice neck, but it’s holding up a pig’s head. Didn’t you hear her? Should I repeat it louder?” Linnea shot back, unafraid.
“And who the hell are you?”
Linnea lifted her chin proudly. “I’m Linnea Breeze.”
A Breeze… in Crownpoint? There aren’t many with that last name.
Only one powerful family bore it–the Breeze Group. And their heiress was none other than Linnea Breeze herself. The Sharpes might have some influence, but compared to the Breezes, they were still miles behind.
She wasn’t someone he could afford to offend.
Auster never expected Evelyn to be close friends with the Breeze heiress.
“Fine then, Evelyn Gulliver. You win today. But I’ll be waiting for the day you come crawling to me,” he spat before storming off.
